Title: Michigan Alumni Receptions
Post by: donut on February 08, 2007, 09:39:31 PM
Hello, this is my VERY FIRST post here.
I feel as if I am venturing into a whole new world....

anyway....I was wondering if anyone was planning to attend the Michigan alumni receptions coming up.... I believe emails were sent out about them recently for receptions in various cities....

I dont know if anyone already started a post about this, but I thought I would ask if anyone was going to the one in Los Angeles....
(and possibly others could list the ones that they were planning on going to in other cities as well)

....just because I thought it would be cool to find out if others are also going, so I dont feel so lone ranger-y.

 ;D

yeah, i looked up the website and stuff of the host person and the company and it looks pretty nice....

i guess it would be a nice idea for people who may not make it to the ASWs...not that it should be or is a substitute, but if there is one in your city, it could be a way to meet other potential 1Ls and of course cool michigan people. and we can all marvel at their lives and wish we could be just like them!   ::)

well there is still a lot of time to rsvp....because you can do it until the date of the actual thing.
so limbo is an easy place to be....

I'd put up a self-tar, but I like remaining anonymous...at least for now.

I want to go to ASW but it's so expensive to fly everywhere from here.   :-\

I actually decided to, and got my schedule figured out so I'd make it, then realized I missed the registration deadline. So no, sorry :(

What deadline? You can register up till the last min. You give up too easily.

I actually withdrew from Michigan today, so I won't be there.  (I will, however, be at the NYU reception at the same time.)  I'm really sad about it.  I love Michigan.  :(  Also, one of my good friends will be there representing as an alumnus, and I was really looking forward to seeing him pretend to act professional.  ;)

I think that's maybe the northern California one.  Ours is at an alumnus's house in Los Feliz, with a special meeting with the dean beforehand.  Where is the Michigan one again?  Somewhere swanky, right?  It's funny to see each school's approach -- the Penn receptions are all co-hosted by firms.  :)

ahahhaa what in the world is going on here.
dr. maguire's lil description may not have been too far off... ;)
just kidding

the LA reception was at HYDe club.....i think its the one where paris got in but then nicole richie (sp?) couldnt....so it's supposed to be super exclusive.  8)
it was really nice, the venue was nice, obviously, small and intimate and dark  :)

there were a lot of alum there....it was kind of hard to tell who was an alum and who was prospective student because a lot of the alum were/looked pretty young....so that was cool.

Professor Clark was also there, who, it turns out, is going to be teaching Torts for teh summer starters this summer..(thats me!) so that was really cool to meet him! ithought it was pretty neat to have him come down from michigan also....
I also got to meet Dean Z and i was really excited to meet her and she was even cooler in person than in all those letters i'd been getting in the mail  :)

professor Clark and the alum host, Randy Winograd, I believe, gave some small speeches.....im a sucker for those speeches. haha i got ALL excited to go start school!

besides meeting all the fantastic alum, i relaly enjoyed meeting other prospective students.....and there were a couple summer starters in the group, so that was like a yay moment.

we didnt get cool sports tickets like the boston one  :'( but true to the nature of the venue....we appropriately got a full open bar....haha so i guess that was our gift. and we got michigan pens! very cool.  :D

maybe the dc one WILl get money hehe

all in all i really enjoyed it, everyone was really nice, chill, cool, impressive, funny, and everything else you'd expect from michigan.

ok so now everyone go there. goodbye
