Post by: austinite on November 27, 2006, 08:45:23 AM

using college facilities for his own children to have a party is bad,

using the law library, during finals, for his high school kids to throw a party for their friends is just plain stupid

Is there a link about this anywhere? I can't believe that.

I like how one of the parents of the prom kids pulled out the old "when I was in law school" line. How quickly they forget.

i'm sure if it was his kid trying to prepare for finals,
he would have had a different response

baylor is not a public institution.
they are more of a baptist-affiliated school

not that the parents come across as baptist-affiliated

Quote from first link -
"Students didn't use the other areas of the library to study during the time instead they sat outside in protest."

I can't wait to be a 1L

If this happened to me I would probably be too angry to study for a while.

i probably would have been pissed,
yet thankful for the free food and drink from crashing his kid's party.

/i figure i pay library fees to use the library, so i'm invited to the party

I'd start drafting my SMU transfer PS. Dallas is better anyway.

Agreed. After my first hour of protesting in the Texas heat I would definitely slip on a party dress and grab some refreshments. Maybe dance with the dean for good measure.

it was really nice when i went home for thanksgiving. just cool enough that a sweater could be worn, but not so cold that it had to be.

but anyway. yeah. I'd pick SMU over Baylor any day.

Plus, I'm creepishly turned on when people call it "Boot Camp for lawyers".

that is creepy

i kind of wish i had taken their fee waiver now so that i could write them and ask them to explain whether this type of activity happened frequently. But since I'm not applying, my guess is that they won't give a damn.

When I went to law school, I didn't have time to hang around outside and that sort of thing. I needed to study.

WHAT?!?!?!  Is that parent serious!  They were trying to study when they got interupted!!

Sadly Baylor is my 2nd choice.  I know it's not that cool, but it's close enough that I'll be able to see my hubby pretty regularly, and worst case he could even transfer to his company's Waco office wihtout having to leave his district.

I went to the Mock Trial invitational there. Nice facilities. Actually, too nice. I had this irrational urge to scatter cigarette butts everywhere.

I DID apply and am accepted. I am thinking I should write them because it would seem to tell us a lot about the administration of the school by how they respond. If they blast the students then we know whose back the administration has.

Any ideas/suggestions for the e-mail to the school asking about this?

None.

I'm wondering how a Democrat could survive in Waco in the first place.

Actually, does that LDS stand for "Latter Day Saints"? I didn't know Mormons could be Democrats, either. You've just exploded my precious little world.

I enjoyed the CD video. Why are the law students so worried about their library space when there are such vast hunting grounds reserved for them?

Yes LDS = Latter Day Saint. Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader (Democrat) is LDS too. He goes to the same church building that I do in D.C. And, I'm not sure if I could survive in Waco either, so I'm not TOO concerned about sending a probing e-mail once I get around to crafting it in a not-too-snotty way.

HA.  Yes, we are few, but I don't have any sort of cognitive dissonance.  Mos can totally (should) be Dems.

What an asshat of a Dean.  And I'm so glad I'm not applying there so my statement can in no way be traced back to me  ;D
