Title: The MTTFTB
Post by: Pirate Pete on May 31, 2006, 01:37:22 PM
(magical time traveling flying tank boat)

If you would, as some of us most definitely would, like to someday have for your very own a magical time-traveling flying tank boat that can sail to the edge of the world and back again, hop up on land and maneuver like a tank, fly to the farthest star, and travel back and forth through time, then this is the thread for you.

There will be man-servants, of course.

You can pick your own duty or one can be assigned to you, if you want.

Em - El co-capitan
Kj - El co-captain and superdrunkhero.
Melanie - El co-capitan
Ginny - First mate and in charge of all alcoholic beverages, also Captain Obvious.
Law-Man
H4CS - Official alcoholic beverage taster
Thou - In charge of building the movie theater and stalking enemies
Dbgirl - Official folk-singing minstrel/bard of the boat and issuer of cowboy hats to all
Stan - In charge of the armory and all defenses
Vannabunny - In charge of stuffed animals, cotton candy, and stuffed animals made of cotton candy
Duck - In charge of all ducks and artwork.  Quack.
Harvey Birdman - Official Birdman and HB'AAL diety.
Scdramaqueen - Official crazy person
Dividebyzero - In charge of ass-whoopin'
Harry Potter - We tricked him into being our minion.

There may be some French maids, involved.  Or they may be more like "Broomhilde" from "Robin Hood: Men in Tights."

We need volunteers.

Must speak gibberish.

engineering is progressing...we've collected various important components, including an inner tube, silver glitter paint, and a broken remote control.

Don't forget the magazine.

Also, does anyone have a large collection of those little plastic things that they use to attach tags to clothing?  Any size is fine.

Excellent. I can contribute design elements if necessary! I have one of those giant foam hands that you get at sporting events. I think that might be helpful.

Yes!

Incidentally, this pic reminded me for some reason of "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."

Law-Man, your gibberish is approved.

Why don't we just use a scrolling text screen (like on the side of Blimps) to put the quotes on, then we could just type them in.

like the real kind? where you're actually saying things?
I had two friends in college who did that sh*t all the time.  They wouldn't teach anyone else (and I was too lazy to teach myself) and then they'd do it when we were hanging out--even if it was just the two of them and one other person.
That was lame

it was useful though!

My brother and I made up a language, but it was pretty basic, just enough to confuse our freinds.

Where do you find these gems?

I find them in the gigantic quotation book that is my head.  I am crazy, you know.  And I want to hire Harry Potter to assist in the design for the MTTFTB.

The MTTFTB is responsible for putting the snakes on the plane in the first place.

Probably because of what you keep threatening to do to blueb.  This makes the talk of man-servants seem much more insidious.

You have nothing to be afraid of, Halfie.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow wheneer they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee,

Strange story...

So I once worked with a guy who I later found out suffered from schizophrenia (although he still functioned normally without meds so I believe that his was a mild case).  Anyway, I don't know why I included the above info except to give some kind of idea of how strange he could be at times.  He and a friend of his had this idea to actually test out that "monkeys on typewriters forever" theory.  The plan would be to set it all up in a lab somewhere and have money set up in a fund to pay for it to keep going long after their deaths.  He also informed me that there would be a plan to electrocute (aka "zap") the monkeys once they became too old and to replace them with new monkeys (I gave him the nickname "monkey zapper" for this).  Now, in order to finance the experiment, he and his friend were going to make a porno about Jesus that would make a lot of money but that would unfortunately get him (not sure what would happen to his friend) killed by angry religious folk.

I was just reminded of this with the talk of monkeys on typewriters and all.

should be.  i'm supposed to work from home but i had problems with logging on remotely today.  and my boss won't be at work.  But i think i should be able to just hang out in my office, which is fine.

i might go shopping after work, and i don't want to drive out to king of prussia, which involves awful roads, so staying in jersey is good  :)

What kind of strange magical land is this "king of prussia?"

The plank goes into the ocean, or if the boat is flying, out into the clouds, or if it's on the ground like a tank, you will be crushed.

We hired Harry Potter to help build the boat.  We're paying him in chocolate coins that we're telling him are from "a magical land far far away," remember?  So Voldemort will undoubtedly show up.

And Luke Skywalker, my assistant from the 80s thread, will draw the Sith against us.

I think what bugs me is that bboy posts all his "black people are stupid" threads on the main board, and a lot of BLSDers don't read the stuff. Then, I feel as if I'm the default "representative" for minorities.  >:( I don't really want that role.

I think I need to hang out in here for a while.
Bboy wouldn't venture into a thread about magic boats (I hope).

Plus, people are happy in here right  ???

Seriously, Breadboy made me so upset the other night that I worried excessively for quite some time and ended up immediately buying some vegan omega 3 supplement online even though the argument that he presented didn't even make sense.  I have been really upset ever since.  :-[  If you're reading this, Breadboy, go back to Wikipedia, fuckface.

I'm a little confused...impulse buy, or was that related to your discussion with him?

It was something that I had thought about before, but being the somewhat anxious person that I am, the purchase was directly related to his completely illogical argument.

I think what bugs me is that bboy posts all his "black people are stupid" threads on the main board, and a lot of BLSDers don't read the stuff. Then, I feel as if I'm the default "representative" for minorities.  >:( I don't really want that role.

i was just teasing.  ;)

but yeah, feeling like you need to take up the fight yourself sucks.  :(

Otherwise it would be a Bboy/Googler/Trollik love fest  :-*
Well, trollik isn't that bad. Sometimes he almost seems normal.

Oh. I bet that argument was well-substantiated!  ::)

No, it wasn't.  He had one ten line abstract from some obscure study that he used to try and "prove" that I was "100%" more likely to die sooner than someone who wasn't vegetarian.  It was an unsound argument, but it still really upset me.  He is now one of the enemies of the MTTFTB.  Oh, and Harry Potter is on our side, by the way  8)

I know a lot of people who tell me that I'm going to die from vegetarianism, or from taking prescription medication.

The bottom line is:

If I die sooner from not eating meat - so be it (not too worried, but I wouldn't change even if it were true);

If I die sooner from taking prescription medication that keeps me from 24/7 pain, so be it.

I would gladly lop a couple of years of the end of my lifespan if it means that I'm happier in the life I've got.  I could be run over by a bus tomorrow anyway.  And, if I am, at least I did what I felt was right.

Exactly.  Even if his warped understanding of a brief abstract of one study is true, I would rather die sooner as I am than compromise my beliefs and live a long life feeling miserable.  He just got to me, that's all.  I don't know why, I'm sure I could upset myself just as much by looking up "lightning strikes" on Wikipedia and getting the same effect.

OK here's some silliness:
I ripped off my fake nails because I am planning to buy a guitar and piano soon, and my nails need to be short. Only, I can't get them to come all the way off. So, my nails look mutilated.

Uggh. Now I have an interview tomorrow (and another Tuesday). So, I have to return to the salon and admit that I mutilated my own nails and ask them to fix them.  :-[

theoretically, but there's nothing really worth seeing in my opinion.  ;)

there are rest and relaxation passes to another country where people can relax a bit more, but we prefer to reserve those for the guys who are actually doing non-desk jobs.  they need it more.  :)

Halfie is speaking a blend of English and gibberish, in which the words make sense but the topic doesn't?

Halfie might earn himself a place on the crew if he keeps the gibberish up.

zombies are cool, they can steer the boat

Added to nefarious plot to make children minions into zombies (a la those creepy children from the Simpsons "The Bloodening" ("we know all your secrets")).  We need some pirates with patches over one eye and parrots on their shoulders to pillage and loot nearby boats.

Speaking of pirates, I'm kind of excited for POTC2 that comes out this summer.  Nerdy?

no.  I'm excited too though.

but the rest of the post is!

What, nerdy?  That episode of the Simpsons where the kids aren't allowed to stay up and watch "The Bloodening" is a great episode.

What was I talking about again?

I am staring at a multicolored glob of playdoh with multicolored toothpicks sticking out of it right now.  (actually true)

I would like to add magnificent angelic wings to the side of the boat, rather than just making it fly magically.  Can we get someone on that?

It was vulgar.  Not as funny as a "Clerks" style take on the profession would have been.  There were a few funny points, yes, but I am much more a fan of satirical and dark humor than goofy ill-represented comedy.  Meh.  I think that a much better job could have been done.

Well my Mexican boyfriend actually had a pretty sordid past. He was familiar with knives -- someone stabbed him. But surprisingly he didn't threaten me with a knife  ??? Perhaps he didnt' read the Mexican foreplay handbook.
My boyfriend and I once interrupted a stabbing -- a Mexican couple, the woman almost had her ears severed. I'm a little embarrassed now. We thought he was trying to kill her, but I guess it was just foreplay  :-[
(although that doesn't explain why he killed himself soon after).

It's weird...I drink often, but almost never a great quantity.  So much so that I have a specific tolerance for the normal amount that I drink, but almost no tolerance for any amount beyond that.  Tequila is fun, though.  Interesting about how you refer to it as "7 months too long."  If I were sober I would wonder if that were meant as a defensive-type joke or if you were trying to find a way to end it.

I am ending it. I came to the conclusion while I was away on vacation. I need a man who can mentally as well as sexually stimulate and arouse me. I just have to find a polite and nice way to say, its me not you.

He's umm great in bed, thats why its lasted so long, he can be fun if your into high school humor. He's just I feel like I have to dumb down everything I say for him to understand. His whole life is sports, his friends, drinking, and sex. He could care less about the world and if I try to discuss anything with him like for example, "What do you think Bush is going to do about Iran?" his answer was, "I bet I can run faster then Bush." thats an actual convo he and I had.

Dear ____________

LOL

Dear Mike,
I must break up with you because your iq is smaller then your penis.

I Googled this and found a website called soyouvebeendumped.com. Apparently it's a collection of excerpts from actual e-mails people have sent. Check out some of these, maybe you'll get some ideas:

“Ever since we started dating, I just don’t have the time to do the things that are important to me. I love you, but I want to spend more time golfing and painting.”

"It just occurred to me that I can't keep doing this; what we're doing is wrong in so many ways."

"You're my best friend and I love you, but you need to be independent of me."

"I think we have three choices: 1) stay together, 2) take a break, or 3) break up entirely, and I want 2 or 3."

"I suppose I love you, but I'm not "in love" with you. I could never love you like I loved my ex-wife."

"Where do we go from here? We've done everything already."

"It's pointless for us to be together because I'm going away in 11 months for university."

"I just can't. I can't take the risk because I really don't think I like you anymore."

"I love my mother more than I love you. Get your stuff and get out."

"I'm just not ready to date anyone right now. I still really really like you."

"I still care about you, but I gotta screw my own head on straight and figure out who I am by myself, and then settle down"

"This just isn't for me. Nothing personal. I want to be able to tell people I'm single."

"I just want to be a typical teenage guy."

"Nothing has changed between us. None of the intimacy that we have has been lost. I just want to explore my feelings for someone else, that's all."

"I wish I had just stayed your friend. "

"The two years that we've been together, a part of me has been lost, but I have now found myself so it's goodbye."

"I'm not pushing you away; I'm not making any descisions right now, but I'm confused, and I'm hurting, and I am not over my last relationship."

"This is MY gig, and if you CAN'T GET that it's MY gig, then there is no place for you in my life. There's NO more (me) and (you)."

"You given me your love and I have only given you my friendship, so I have been mulling it over for the last two years, and decided it is not fair to you. It is not your fault it is me."

"We don't DO our emotional business in the same way."

"I see where this is going -- towards a relationship. I have a lot of demands on my time, and I just don't have the space and time to devote to one."

"I'm not putting the brakes on this, I'm just orienting it towards another direction."

"Well, I don't think just not talking to you is going to be enough space for me."

"I think you're a lovely woman, but I've just come out of a relationship, and the reason I did is because I didn't want to be in one. I want to free - if you know what I mean."

"You mean more to me than life itself - but I'm suicidal - so F**K off!"

I like the last one the best  :D

"It's pointless for us to be together because I'm going away in 11 months for university." change uni with law school lol and that might work, he's not bright enough to figure it out. Honestly give me your thoughts ya'll this is what I'm thinking of saying, in private to him.

"Mike, this next year at school is going to be hard, I have to keep my gpa up, and since I've been with you it has been a struggle, I barley made a 3.5 last semester and I have so much to make up for since my freshman year drama, you know how important law school is to me, I want to make my grandfather proud and follow in his footsteps. I just feel that being with you, is distracting me from fufilling my dreams. I need time, and I hope you understand that this is all my fault because I am horrible about time management, I cant seem to study when we are out 8 hours every day just "chillin" and I need to focus.

Mike I hope we can still be friends, I know thats so cliche, but I do." or something along those lines

If you're serious, pm tomorrow and I will try to honestly help.  But I get the impression that this is fake, and although the truth might hurt him initially, you might be better off telling him how it is than pretending that you are breaking up with him for the wrong reasons.  Like I said, though, I can't even fathom the garbage that I just posted, so if you're serious, pm tomorrow.

Absolutely nothing.  You are now the official Birdman of the boat.  You can, you know, do Birdman stuff and all that.

This thread is jibberish.

Just us getting a little teary eyed about people we knew who died tragically.

My old friend this song's for you
Cause a few simple verses was the least
that I could do
To tell the world you were here
And the love and the laughter will live
on long after
All of the sadness and tears
And we'll meet again my old friend
Goodbye goodbye
Goodbye goodbye
My old friend

Punting is a beautiful way to drink away the afternoon.  Water, flat bottomed boats, good company, sunlight.  The best.

Yeah, I prolly would have liked stuff had I given it half a chance.  The only "activity" that I was "in" in high school was "French Club" and "French Honor Society," not because I wanted to, but because my French teacher forced me to (as in, club pictures just happened to be during her class, and she'd say "Come on, Emilie, come for the picture."  Damn French Club.  They never had meetings or anything, either.  Total waste.

Yeah, I'm a quitter, too.  Or formally a quitter, as I like to think about it.

French Club ewww.

She was the devil incarnate.  And yes, French Club = ewwwwww.  Especially if you don't have a choice.

If you're French.  If you're just an idiot high school student it sounds like you are choking a cat while coughing on your own phlegm.

I read it much better than I speak it.

spinners on a MTTFTB?  I like it, div!

Some might say, "Div, why on earth would you put spinnaz on a boat?" and after I was done female dog-slapping them like a ho' that owed me money, I would reply, "Because it's the motherfuckin' MTTFTB, that's why!"

Speaking of which, someone should put some motherfuckin' snakes on this motherfuckin' boat  ;D!

Or apparently, I'm crazy:

IRL, I'm pretty much insane.  I spend time babbling to myself while walking in circles around garbage cans, wearing aluminum foil on my head, hiding under the bed when the mailman walks by, removing light bulbs from their sockets in public places, and screaming at the sight of young children.  You know, the usual stuff.  But somehow I manage to hold it all together on here.

It doesn't really matter that much...it just struck me as very odd.  I guess anyone has the right to ask anyone else his/her opinion of another poster (who in turn has the right to respond/not respond).  I wish that someone would ask me my opinion of you, cause then I'd say, "Who, Kj?  She's a motherfuckin' thug, man."  (Actually, in reality I would respond with "I hewrat Kj.  I really, really hewrat her."  (sort of a movie reference in there too, but an altered one).

Yeep! How many hours is the job?
It's just a regular 40 hr/week job but I'm being "watched" all the time so no time to sneak and (say, do research or whatever). I don't know, I'm just lacking the energy to come home and do more law stuff. I already did law day and night for 9 months and am going back for more in August. Plus, I had an interview today and another coming up soon.

No. The lady with the son ... that's another long and complicated story. She's the one I'm doing this project for ... I don't know what the f--k I'm doing and I should probably tell her, but I'm the type that just tries to figure sh-t out..  Tomorrow I'm going to have to contact her and at least update her, see if she really needs the project by Friday. Sigh.

I have to say that my flunkee temp job at the firm isn't really bad, but it's not using my skills/experience. For some reason the firm likes to hire law students to do bonehead work.
The highlight of my day was when the guy teaching me how to perform the flunkee work mumbled under his breath "you are sooooooooo overqualified for this"  :D
But hey, it's $$$ and I need $$$.

Also, sometimes I like to lift my arms in the air parallel to the ground and close my eyes, as though I were about to take off flying in the air.  But it never happens.  People just look at me weird, instead.  One of these days, it'll happen and I'll be like "Ha!"

He gets under my skin, too, so I'd probably snap without cause if he tried to enter the MTTFTB.  Besides, a) you're not dumb b) but everyone feels dumb sometimes (even Breadboy) and c) he did something dumb tonight and I laughed out loud at him (to myself, I didn't post the "lol" or anything).

Thanks for the positive thoughts.

It's been a long time since I felt incompetent, but this whole field will do that to people.  :(
Also, this two-job thing, is not working too well.  :(
I sure hope next summer is better.

What did bboy do? On what thread?

He just posted a serious response right in the middle of some funny gibberish and I thought, "what if he is just incapable of being funny?  or is so full of himself that he is incapable of recognizing humor?" and then I felt bad but still laughed.

Um...actually, that wasn't a lie :hangs head in shame for being a PP&M fan:

That is NOT shameful.
My favorite is PP&M is Leaving on a Jet Plane (I know they weren't the only ones to do it but I like their version).

All my bags are packed
Im ready to go
Im standin here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin
Its early morn
The taxis waitin
Hes blowin his horn
Already Im so lonesome
I could cry  :'(

So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that youll wait for me
Hold me like youll never let me go
cause Im leavin on a jet plane
Dont know when Ill be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go

Perhaps I'll add that to my list of folks songs to play on my (soon to be purchased) guitar.

Do you play guitar, or are you getting one with the intent to learn?

I play piano well and I sing a little, but I never did learn to play guitar.
I've been meaning to for about 15 years now, so soon I'm going to really do it. I need to because my stupid boyfriend from when I was a teenager got all high and mighty on me and said "I have no confidence in your ability to play guitar."  I need to show is butt :P
What really sucks is that HE became mildly famous and he can't sing worth a sh!t or play guitar all that well.
Jerk.

So ... I hereby declare that THIS is the summer I will get a guitar!

Cool. I have a guitar that I bought in high school, but never learned to play because I was overinvolved with extracurriculars. Basically, it sat in the corner and gathered about 4 inches of dust until I saw it/remembered I owned it about a week and a half ago. Now I'm trying to learn how to play, but I have no idea whether it's in tune or not.  ???

Well at least with a guitar you can tune it yourself. Are you going to take classes or lessons, or just teach yourself?

Helllllloooooooo Tank Boat!!

If I had a hammer
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening
All over this land
I'd hammer out danger
I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

If I had a bell
I'd ring it in the morning
I'd ring it in the evening
All over this land
I'd ring out danger
I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

If I had a song
I'd sing it in the morning
I'd sing it in the evening
All over this land
I'd sing out danger
I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

Well I've got a hammer
And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing
All over this land
It's the hammer of justice
It's the bell of freedom
It's the song about love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

I hate the sunlight and I hate the night.
I hate white people because they is white.
Their hair is wavy, their lips is thin,
But worse than white women, I hate white men.
Walking around with briefcase and money,
Bust they head open, my ain't that funny?
Not out of anger and not out of spite.

Giftcard to her local drumming supply shop (aka music store)?  Some kind of drumming accessory?  You could always go with the generic Borders or Barnes and Noble giftcard.

seven months is still a lot.  the first year or so is the toughest, i think.

I've done it for just under a year before...there is an adjustment because you get accustomed to your lifestyle and it involves some upheaval of both of your habits in order to become comfortable again.  Meh...it'll all be fine, though.  And fun >:D

I don't think I would, if given that option.  I mean, I could go back and make myself get good grades and do better on the LSAT and be off to Berkeley, which I want more than just about anything... but if I'd done that I think I'd have missed out on a lot of experiences which have made me who I am today, and that's probably not a good idea.  Looking back is lame, it's all about moving forward.

Hello!  Ragweed, are you there?
The night is full of sulphurous air!
My love has gone a wanderin' so...
Yet I fear she may have no place to go.

:D
god i love this thread

And this thread loves you, el capitan!
:-*

i promise i will visit more in the near future, i feel like i haven't spent enough time here

Yeah, when I get that feeling I just post a page or two of jibberish.  And make up little poems and stuff.

hopefully work will be boring tomorrow, i'll write some little diddies!

Don't worry, I'm sure it will be.  If it was supposed to be fun, then they wouldn't have to pay you to do it.  :D

Jibberish & poems are always good. Jibberish poems = even better.

Oh, I once saw a tree named Tongo
That grew on the edge of the Congo
An elf came along
A singin' a song
And beatin' his fists on a bongo.

Hello!  Ragweed, are you there?

Yay! This sorta sounds like something from children's books. If you decide the law isn't for you, you should totally write those. And have big, colorful illustrations :)

Good idea...children speak jibberish, you know.

Wow, db, you sure must hate white men.  :D

What's going on, tank boat?

I thought about putting that out there for Googler to read but he'd take it seriously.

As for me, I went to friend's bday party lastnight but didn't have time to get her a present (I'm a bad friend).
What should I get her? She's really smart, really nice, plays drums, dresses vintage. Ideas anyone?

Giftcard to her local drumming supply shop (aka music store)?  Some kind of drumming accessory?  You could always go with the generic Borders or Barnes and Noble giftcard.

whats up tankboaters!
Hey all!!

Hi everybody!
Thanks for ideas Em ... anyway, I didn't want to get her a gift card because it's really impersonal. She took me to see a play for my birthday, so I had to "upstage" her  :)
I ended up buying her a really pretty pink belly dancing girdle scarf. She takes belly dancing and I don't think she has anything to dance in ... plus, she LOVES clothes. It was more than I wanted to spend, but she's a good person, so, why not.

I think she'll like it.
I used to belly dance myself, back when I was a kid. My mom was a dance teacher once upon a time. She used to make all sorts of beautiful costumes by hand .... they'd be worth a TON of money if she hadn't lost her mind and thrown them all away  :'(

do you eat the cookie?

No, it has eggs in it.  Actually, the fortunes I get for my collection I only take from broken cookies that would be discarded anyway.  When I read you (or anyone else) one online though, it's from a new cookie.  Except that last one.  It happened to be broken.  Sorry.  :D

is that about a sailor boy not having public hair?

I tried not to make it sound dirty, but was too lazy to bother.  It's about a sailor whose lawn doesn't grow because he is never there long enough to take care of his yard.  The language and style are meant to suggest that it takes place in the past, however, the use of grass to symbolize lawn and yard is meant to be seen as modern.  It means that things never change.  Um, I think.  Actually, I just made it up.

This is a pretty awful question.
As a person w/limited mobility already ... I'm not sure which I'd choose.  I already have a hard time walking, but if I lost a leg I'd probably be really f--ed.

Deep Thoughts by DB

Hey folks ...
On my new job I'm not "allowed" to use the Internet or phone  ::)
So, to kill time (between doing boring grunt work) I have decided to write poetry.  :)
And, since there are people here I thought I'd share:

Below is my boyfriend's favorite of the bunch  :D

Tick Tock
Tick Tock
Goes the clock
That has a lock
Around my life
From 9 to 5
I stay alive
And watch the clock
It goes tick tock
A quiet lock
Around my life.
Title: Re: The MTTFTB

This is the one that I like the best  :D

The Shell

The shell is there
But hollow inside
Like a snail
That lost its home
And lost its essence
And now is nothing
But a slimy track
That was something
Once upon a time.

I like how, in the second one, in the middle of the poem, "lost" repeats in two lines and then "and" repeats in the next two lines.  It gives it a rhythmic quality.

Tonight I went out and ran into a friend from law school. She LOVES her summer job. As for me, obviously, I'm not liking mine so much. I tried to talk it up as best I could. It turns out we work in the same neighborhood, so we're going to get together for lunch. I'm hoping she doesn't pry too much about my icky work. Anyway, the icky work is paying the bills and giving me a little extra $$.
I need to remember that.

Oh, I'm trying to psych myself up to go to another fun week of work. It's funny, because they are looking for a permanent person and I agreed to stay until either they find a permanent person or I get a better offer. So, everyday I whine to myself about how much I hate it there, but the other day someone came in to interview for "my" job, and I got a little jealous  :-\

I think it's the "I don't want him/You can't have him syndrome." You know, you don't really want to date a particular guy but when he starts liking other girls, it hurts a bit.

I guess I don't have to worry yet though because they didn't like the chick, for whatever reason.

Ha!  This reminds me of my sister's work.  They keep hiring different people for this one job, and then firing them because they suck at it.  They also rely way too much on this stupid personality test that they make the people take.  I could go on and on...but I'll be brief.  Just that they just hired someone new and I'm wondering how long it will be until they nit pick her "faults" to death, too.

The bottom line is a person doesn't need to go to law school or have law school ambitions to do my work, but the firm doesn't believe it  :D

All the dumb companies I've worked for have given me a lot of ideas about how I would do things if I ran my own business. I'd really want to have a happy crowd at my place.

The best short-term jobs I had were the ones that offered little (but nice) perks - free snacks/drinks stuff like that. It doesn't cost much to have some soda, water and trail mix around.  I briefly worked for California's Prop 72 (stem cell research) campaign -- they treated me really well. All the employees got free lunch ordered in every day (as a way of keeping us @ work of course).

Mmmmm.....free lunch....mmmmm... :P

There were lots of different restaurants around -- we could order anything we wanted, every day. Plus he had a full fridge/pantry.  Probably not the healthiest job on earth, but fun.

Yummers  :D

I like wine.
A lot.
That is all.

Sometimes when I read the stuff that they write about people who are less fortunate than themselves I think "this must be a joke...or flame...or some very immature and spoiled children with irresponsible parents..."  But I can't decide which one for certain.

It's the latter. What I don't understand is that trollik claims to come from a modest background.
And I hate how he equates success w/money. I feel really good about a lot of the choices I have made, careerwise, even if they didn't pay much. I admit I got tired of earning so little, but I didn't get tired of the work.

Yes, Googler is a real person (unless he knows that real person well and is impersonating him).
Trollik is hard to figure out.  ??? Sometimes he seems like an OK guy, then he goes off and says bizarre things.

What I hate is that they both have this attitude of "you can control everything that happens to you." It's just bullsh!t. I have had a lot of things happen in my life over which I had no control. In other words, I have had far more than my share of terrible misfortune.

My brother and his wife make lots of money and look down on me and my bf for working (relatively) low-wage jobs.  I secretly wished that they would experience just some of the bad things that have happened to me.  Well, they got it even worse. Their "perfect" life is crumbling around them. They're getting a divorce, they have to sell their house (after just buying it a year ago), my brother had to spend more than $10,000 on a lawyer defending himself in court because he smacked his wife, the list goes on.
He is in NO position to talk about MY life choices!

Whenever I think about how hard it is to be me ... I just think about how great it is NOT to be him.

The bf and I aren't rich, but we're happy. If we do get rich, we'll be much happier  :) :) :) :)

Goo and trollie just got out of undergrad. And trolli dates teenagers (the only girls he can impress)  :D

Nah -- you're not the type to get wrapped up in that.
At work today, doing tedious and menial tasks, I had to keep reminding myself of the things I can do with the money I earn ... I never much needed to do that with my old job (it had problems but it was seldom boring and rarely tedious).

Hey ladies ... I think I kinda sorta quit my job. I'm not sure that's quite what I wanted to do. I had big plans for the $$$.
The thing is the recruiter asked how I was managing working full-time + research projects on the side. I told her "not very well." So, she lined someone else up to take my place and told me not to feel guilty.
I don't know, I wanted to leave, but not for a couple more weeks or until I had a better offer.   :-[
Sigh. They like me so much they want me to train the new person.

In other news ... I applied for a project at my school that pays a decent stipend for 10-15 hours/week. Wish me luck.

I also have a really cool freelance gig reading/copyediting a novel for a friend of mine. I am nothing if not resourceful.

Well, kind of. I mean, I have really bad back problems and the job was literally hurting me. Plus, it was really boring and (frankly) the attorneys were/are unfriendly jerks.
The rest of the staff is really sweet though. I even think my coworker has a little crush on me. It's sort of cute.

The bf didn't used to be jealous, but I think he's become more so since I've been going to law school. Even so, it's a cute jealous, not a possessive(sp?) kind of thing.

Hey, what's the brand name on that red one?  It looks just like the one my parents bought my bf for his b-day this year.

Are you two gonna be like Mitch and Micki? (Reference to the Christopher Guest movie "A Mighty Wind.")

It's an Ibanez .... don't tell me your bf and I have matching guitars  :D

Well, I haven't seen the movie ... but I was thinking maybe we'd be good or something?  We just need to figure out where to take lessons now ... there is a place around the corner from my house, but that's private lessons, I'm thinking community college lessons or something.

I think his is from some company that starts with an "F," but they look a lot alike.

"A Mighty Wind" is a funny movie if you like folk music (even just a little) and if you are a fan of that "Best in Show" type humor.  I think I'm gonna have to obtain it and watch it soon, now that I mentioned this.  Anyway, I think it would be awesome if you guys played together...sooooo cute.  :)

Thanks  :) ... he's only been promising me we'd do this for 8 years  :D
He's really shy and doesn't like to sing, so I guess he'll be my backup player.

It's funny...the bf wanted to learn the guitar and I wanted to learn the violin, except I was always too tight with money to buy one (making excuses mainly)...he is starting to learn his guitar now and I am sort of thinking of asking for one for my birthday in August.  Not that I'll have time during 1L, although it might be a good stress reliever.  He has a very Bob Dylanesque singing voice, which would work for me.

Anyway, I think you guys should do it.  I bet you'd sound awesome and have lots of fun!

We bought a piano!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, the timing is a little bad given that I, umm, quit my job.

We were just going to look, but the sales guy was very handsome and charming (even my boyfriend agreed w/me on this one).
Here's how he closed the deal:

Me: "Well, I really shouldn't be buying a piano right now ...."
Him: "But what you're buying is the music ... you're not just buying a piece of furniture."

This is the first new piano I've ever owned ... it's beautiful!!!!!
I really miss playing ... I haven't played much in the past several years. I was good once.  My boyfriend is really excited, he said he really wanted me to have it.
 :'(
(now db must go get lotsa $$$ to pay for it).

Well, I think it's just wonderful.  What is life for if not to experience the swirl of emotion that comes from spending lots of money on a wonderfully indulgent purchase that you know you'll enjoy years from now.  Just think about it, this purchase, right after you quit your job, is the type of story that you'll tell your grandchildren, not the story about the boring summer job you had after 1L.  Sigh...simply marvelous.  :)

And the salesman was right, an instrument like a piano can give as much back to you as you can give to it.  If you appreciate the music that it can produce, it will relieve stress for you.  If you can put forth the discipline to practice and play better, it will help you with discipline in other areas of your life as well.

I am impressed, db, very impressed.  :)  This is good.

Thanks ... that's why I wanted to post here ... because the goo/troll gang never come over here to the "looneybin"  :D
The salesguy, Corey, said that quitting a job and buying a piano is something that HE would do. He was a music major (like me some years ago) and came to CA w/NO $$ and said he got rejected for a job at the Home Depot.
Then, the piano salesman job came along and ... well he's really good at it ... he thinks it's because he has a lot of passion for what he does.
Music really makes me happy ... and I could use that right now. And when all is said and done I'd much rather people say "She lived life on her terms" than "She worked for a litigation firm that defended big companies against dying/dead old people."

Btw ... I trained the new chick, she's so sweet. I told her not to let these crazy lawyers bring her down, they're nothing special. She gave me a hug  :'(

Meanwhile, next week will be spent with my freelance projects, including editing my friends novel ... and of course making room for the piano!

One of my favorite quotes in life comes from this guy that I work with.  He said to me one day, "There is this difference between your country and mine.  In my country, we work to live, while in your country, you live to work."  Even though I'm sure that he has no idea how much this little statement meant to me, I remember it as a reminder of how important it is to enjoy life.  Work is only there to help pay for it.

Well, I know you like old music like I do, so maybe you're familiar w/this song ...
I don't know, it reminds of the whole work because you're supposed to stuff.  My favorite verse is the bolded part ... that sounds like an ideal life to me  :D

Im going to rent myself a house
In the shade of the freeway
Im going to pack my lunch in the morning
And go to work each day
And when the evening rolls around
Ill go on home and lay my body down
And when the morning light comes streaming in
Ill get up and do it again
Amen
Say it again
Amen

I want to know what became of the changes
We waited for love to bring
Were they only the fitful dreams
Of some greater awakening
Ive been aware of the time going by
They say in the end its the wink of an eye
And when the morning light comes streaming in
Youll get up and do it again
Amen

Caught between the longing for love
And the struggle for the legal tender
Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring
And the junk man pounds his fender
Where the veterans dream of the fight
Fast asleep at the traffic light
And the children solemnly wait
For the ice cream vendor
Out into the cool of the evening
Strolls the pretender

He knows that all his hopes and dreams
Begin and end there

Ah the laughter of the lovers
As they run through the night
Leaving nothing for the others
But to choose off and fight
And tear at the world with all their might
While the ships bearing their dreams
Sail out of sight

Im going to find myself a girl
Who can show me what laughter means
And well fill in the missing colors
In each others paint-by-number dreams
And then well put out dark glasses on
And well make love until our strength is gone
And when the morning light comes streaming in
Well get up and do it again
Get it up again

Im going to be a happy idiot
And struggle for the legal tender
Where the ads take aim and lay their claim
To the heart and the soul of the spender
And believe in whatever may lie
In those things that money can buy
Thought true love could have been a contender
Are you there?
Say a prayer for the pretender
Who started out so young and strong
Only to surrender

It's called "The Pretender" by Jackson Browne.
My 5/6 grade teacher used to make us have music time everyday. He played that song for us and I've loved it ever since.

Not crazy, just passionate.  Which is a good thing.  But crazy people are okay too.  As are drunkards.

That movie is going to be the highest-grossing in history. Largely because of LSDers who will see it multiple times.

Sounds like a blast!  I get the impression that music has always been a very important part of your life.  Was this from childhood?

I didn't really start playing piano until I was a teenager, but I always liked music and singing.
I never knew where I got that from until last year when I met my uncle Jimmy. He's musically gifted, he was a music major (as was I for a bit) and he still plays harmonica.  He's way more like me than my own father is. Too bad it took so many years to meet him.

I miss this boat... :-\

I had a daydream the other day about sailing her around the world, and also another one about tricking Harry Potter into being my minion...

Oh, fair gibberish!
When will you reign supreme?
When ruby jewels,
And power tools,
Are served on top of ice cream?

I like the picture you paint. My three favorite things...jewels, tools, and ice cream..

Would you eat them in a hat?
Would you serve them to a cat?
Would you float them on a moat?
Would you eat them in a boat?

I'm so excited!!

We're excited to be back, db...

We feel the need to take off on a long, gluttonous, self-indulging vacation.

We also need to have servants read our law school reading assignments out loud to us and to act out the case studies in puppet show format.
