Just wanted to give this thread a bump.

Anyone else going to USF?

Has anyone checked to see which section you are in?  We aren't supposed to get the info until the 4th, but when I log into USF connect and look at my schedule, it is already showing some classes.  Everybody excited yet?

Congratulations!!  Are you excited?  USF was one of your first choices, right?

Do you have an apartment yet?  If you aren't familiar with the area, feel free to ask me any questions.

With rent prices in SF, that is totally hot how much money you will save! :)  If my parents didn't live through a sea of bay area morning traffic, I would consider living with them.

I am going....Still haven't found a place to rent yet though.  Starting to get a little worried, considering that school starts in a few weeks.

The competition for cheap apartments in SF is pretty crazy.  Where are you moving from toinore?

Right now I work in Marin, so I drive.  For bus routes, I have to do my research.  I did apply for a parking permit, though I understand those are hard to come by.  I was originally thinking I would bart to the civic center and then take the USF shuttle, but as I mentioned above the $3 each way seems a little steep on top of daily bart fare....  So, no, I don't know about the 44.  What areas does it go through?  I need to become literate in the ways of Muni:)

Whoa!!! That map is instense.  This will provide me hours of strategic entertainment.  Thank you :)  The 44 is pretty close, but I don't see a stop that is really close to USF ...
Title: Re: The Official I'm Going to USF Thread
Post by: Briannon on July 26, 2006, 03:45:08 PM
Hmmm... maybe I'm not reading it correctly.  I don't see the 44 stop on Fulton, just Geary and 6th and the middle of Golden Gate Park.  So did you look at your potential schedule?
Title: Re: The Official I'm Going to USF Thread
Post by: Briannon on July 26, 2006, 03:52:48 PM
The number bubbles are only there for identification of the line.  They don't indicate a stop.  Bubbles do indicate a stop on the express lines, however, but they are the ones without the numbers put in.

Oh, ok.  I am wowed by your muni prowess  ;D

Yeah.  Looks good.  I read the legal writing thing where we're supposed to practice a brief.  I did like one sentence in it in particular.  It went something like, "Without a good methodology, your briefs could be all jumbled."  Clearly, this author is from Southern California.

Haha.  I read some of the legal writing packet last night, but certainly didn't make it through the whole supreme court case yet.

It's all part of the screening process.  You must have eagle eyesight to add to your repetoire of super lawyer powers.

Don't worry- my eagle eye vision totally overlooked the legend on the muni map:)  Perhaps your map reading skills can compensate for your lack of super eyesight.

There definitely is two hour parking in front.  There are also some metered spots.  It gets crowded though.  I have visited the campus (to drop stuff off, etc) about 6 or 7 times.  During the summer parking is easy.  The spring, not so much...

Mr. Maps.  That is your new name.  Does your mom live in the richmond?
Title: Re: The Official I'm Going to USF Thread
Post by: Briannon on July 26, 2006, 04:51:42 PM
Richmond is really busy as far as parking goes.  At least the areas right off of Geary and Clement in the inner richmond.  Then again, I don't really go there in the morning, just weekends - so it may be more calm then.  I like russian hill - lots of cute places.  Do you have any friends going to USF also?

It's always busy...it's just about the dedication.  I think getting the visitor parking pass is a way better idea anyway.

The visitor pass as in a daily $15 one???

I know!  It seems like every time I call someone about a place, it is already gone.  I am moving up from Santa Cruz.  Not too far, but I don't have a car, so that makes things a little more difficult.

Might as well have to stand in the doorway with a sword.  When are you trying to move up?

Well, my lease is up Aug 1, but if I don't find a place by then I will leave my stuff at my boyfriends house...and probably come up to the city and crash at a friends place so that I can be the first in line at all of these open houses.

I agree that the requirements for securing a lease seem like a bit of overkill.  Last time I lived in SF I don't remember it being that bad...but, I guess I got the place through word of mouth, so that is always a lot easier.  I actually saw a place listed that had a 3 hour window of time in which you had to call, receive an appointment, arrive at the place and go through the open house.  They said that if you called before the 3 hours you would be automatically disqualified...very odd.

If by moving you mean packing and if by done you mean started, then yes.   ;D

Haha-  good luck!  I'm excited - I actually got a parking pass for on campus!

And the bright side of your late move is that you missed the wretched "break a sweat just sitting there even though it is San Francisco" heat wave.  Are you getting any kind of a break before school?

I'm spending Monday doing errands (one of which is getting books and id.)  I also need a laptop bag, a neighborhood parking permit, and maybe some miscellaneous shopping in Union Sq.

Did you email them a pic?  I felt kinda silly posing for an ID picture in my living room, but thought it would be easier than making it on campus.  I need a laptop bag also... any particular stores you are planning on checking?  I know there are a lot online, but I kind of want to see it in real life.  I was guessing probably regular old computer/office stores have them, but haven't the selections yet.

I think I'm going with Tumi.  I'm at least going to see if they have anything that I want.  I don't want to carry a backpack unless I absolutely have to, which is why it's important that I get the books first so I know how much I have to take with me. Then I'll get a really big laptop bag.  I'll probably swing by the North Face store too to see what they offer.

I took my own "passport" sized photos (in my living room  ;)) and then them in.  It was a lkate Thursday night and I'm sure any neighbors that saw thought I was a crazy person.  I think I'm emailing that in tonight.

Whoa there fancy pants.  I had never heard of them before, but just looked them up.  North Face, good idea.

I wonder what happened to our fellow USFers...

My ID photos ended up looking like normal ID photos, but I was amused by the possibility that people could send in pictures of themselves out at clubs, camping, etc.

I had the same exact hesitation with any of those pictures.  But now we just outed our potential intentions on a public message board.  Oh well :)

I've been a pretty safe poster.  Though I did join your club a while ago.

What section are guys in?  I'm in section 1.

I'm in section 2.  I love that Sec. 2 will be done with classes by 2 p.m. on Fridays.  You guys are way ahead of me in terms of preparation.  I still haven't figured out my living situation.  Or bought a laptop (the one I currently have is an old Mac)....or, really done much of anything.

Did you guys see that you can buy books online?  Have either of you looked into it?

I definitely feel your pain on the moving thing...except in my case it's "if I could only find a place to move into!"  I'm sure it will all work out.  Things usually do.

It is pretty exciting though.

I haven't looked into buying books online either.  I didn't even notice that you could do that!  I may just swing by there on Monday of next week and pick them up.

I too love that section 2 is done on Fridays by 2!  No matter how diligent I am, Friday afternoons I just start getting a little lackadaisical.

For the apartment search- are you trying to get a place alone, or did you use USF's roommate service?

Our school has 5 pilates classes and 11 yoga classes a week.  That is way more frequently than my gym.  Just thought I would share :)

I'm having the same debate - thats why I was checking it out.  On the one hand it is free and seems to have comprehensive fitness offerings.  One the other hand, it will only perpetuate my living and breathing law school life.  And it might be a little far on the weekends...

Im sure everyone appreciates that.  Once again, excellent judgement Mugatu - if that doesn't scream future lawyer, I don't know what does ... :)

Do you do fitness classes or just cardio/weight machines?

After browsing the whole website, it looks like a pretty decent gym.  I would try it first before you go sign up somewhere else.  Have a good day!

I am just trying to use craigslist and word of mouth from my friends in the city to get a place.  Going up to the city tomorrow to pound the pavement.  Luckily, I have a number of friends who said I could stay with them until I found something more convenient, so I probably won't have to pay rent in August.

To ask totally ridiculous questions at midnight on Wednesday - they keep referencing that first week class assignments will be on the website in early August, but I still don't see them.  You don't happen to know where on the website they may be, do you?

I claim being too busy.  I bet Alan would be able to help, though.

Its really not that important - just one of those things that occured to me since I drank Vietnamese coffee with dinner and am therefore still awake and have a wandering mind...

Just found out that I'll be at USF, too.  I was all aet to head to Boston and go to Northeastern, but I got called off the waitlist for the evening program, and I have family in SF, love the city, it's close to home (Seattle, for me), etc...so I decided to come! I'm a little bummed that after all of this I'll be in an evening program, but if you do okay it sounds like you can tranfer to the full time day and go during the 1L summer.

Awesome Michelleinsea! San Francisco and Seattle have a lot of similarities (I did my undergrad in Olympia, WA).  4 days until orientation :)  I don't know for a fact, but I'm pretty sure at some on campus event I heard people discussing how people had moved from part time to full time.

I haven't finished packing yet.  I want to leave in 2.5 hours.  This is cutting it close.

Ouch!  Good luck with that - just see this as your chance to be an extreme minimalist and get rid of half your possessions :)  Are you taking a Uhaul?

I'm at work right now.  Friday was supposed to be my last day... sucks to be a perfectionist and a procrastinator...  :)

Congrats on finishing the move!

I went to get books today also.  Or rather attempt it.  Twice.  They told me they might have them in the afternoon delivery, but when I went back - no such luck.  They were very friendly though:)

I don't know where the orientation schedule is on the website- but in the packet it is on the bright yellow sheet.  In case you can't find it due to moving, I'll type it for you... I'll just relay section 1 info because if I recall correctly, that is your section.

Day 1
Section 1 will begin promptly at 12:30 in Room 100 Kendrick Hall with "JD Program Overview".  I am assuming you turn in your honor code, pick up your I.D., etc a little before that.

Then 2:30- 4:30 Tort Law Class

4:30-6:30 Meet with student leaders

6:30 Welcome & Dinner (provided by school)

I think we also get a little more detailed schedule on the first day of orientation because the subsequent days have sessions that don't specify which section they are for... but if you curious I can type more of the following days.
