Are we looking at a mix of EA/ED/Regular admission dates?  Would it possible for someone far less lazy than myself to go through and separate them?
Title: Re: Decision Dates for Last Year

This is just when acceptances started going out.  There was no distinction between EA and ED, because I'm nice, but I'm not that nice!

Seriously though--can we sticky this?  I'll update it for this year as things start to come in ;D

I'll help supplement the thread.

Same deal but tailored to specific numbers and dates changed from earliest to likely (and including complete dates).

Edit: These complete/decision dates hold water only if you applied during early Oct or Sept.

Heres the top 15 or so schools (excluding yale and including Texas) tailored to likely decision dates for people with low 170s and near 3.5 gpas.

October-
Decision None
Complete Col 20 NYU 20 Mich 20 Penn 20 (i.e. 10/20)

November-
Decision Texas 01 George 15 Mich 20
complete NU 15 Cornell 10 Berk 15 GT 12 UT 01 Virg 01 Stan 08 Harv 15

December-
Decision Duke 01 Cornell 15 Virg 15 Penn 20 NYU 01 (Berk and Harv admit qualified apps at this time)

January-
Decision Col 31 Nu 06 Chicago 20 (Stanford lets in qualified during this time)

Note: Berkley, Stanford, and Harvard let applicants in on the months listed but their process continued for many months and was very irregular in that it was not as confined to a particular date as the other schools.  Also, my U.T. dates are sketchy due to the lack of people with the numbers I was looking at who reported their time tables to LSN.

Tralala, this was an awesome thread. I can't access LSN from my dorm and this is a nifty little way to control my anxiety! Thank you so much.

Nowayman, supplement is awesome as well. Hopefully those dates will stay roughly the same for this year as well.

Haha.  I just made a list of the dates for my schools this morning.  If only I'd waited.  :)

I have to just keep reminding myself that I need to relax and not expect to hear from anyone for another month instead of, y'know, running from my bus stop to my mailbox.  ;)  At least I have Netflix to keep my mail getting experience generally pleasant.

Stanford and Harvard seem to accept some people right before Thanksgiving to make for a great holiday weekend; but now with LSN, those people that don't get the acceptance that week may have a nervous breakdown in front of the turkey and pumpkin pie.

Maybe the really well qualified people, anyway.  I feel like for the borderline cases it's pretty obvious that we won't be hearing that early; that's mostly for the stunningly well qualified.

It kind of surprises me that Penn is among the guilty! What kind of logic would have you send out rejections before acceptances? It seems so backwards in any context.

Lol, makes sense to me.  While going through the apps, you come across several rejections for every acceptance...might as well send them out.  Acceptances require phone calls, special e-mails, welcome packages, etc.  A rejection letter just requires cheap paper and an envelope.  Were I an admissions officer, I'd send out rejections as I made them...best not to lead people on, right?

It doesn't make sense so early in the process ... I mean, those people must really not have anything to offer to be rejected so early. I agree that it's best not to lead people on, but I imagined their mentality in November admissions to be "tra la la ... who do I love today? who is just jumping off the page ... so exciting?!?" not to be sitting down with the serious business of making final decisions for the entire admissions season.

Yeah, I didn't mean you reject the people who might have a shot once you get a picture of what the entire pool is like.  But there are some people where you'd be like, "Hahaha.  Right.  Reject!"

But even with those people for whom it's like, "What?  Nooo!  Reject," I'd like to think that a little human understanding enters into the system at least at this point and they hold off until 1) the required notification date or 2) after the New Year.  After that, the kids are on their own.  But before then... I dunno, I've applied EA 4 places where I don't have a shot so I'm shooting myself in the foot, but to start the season off with a rejection is just... I'm sure it's not easy to deal with.  This whole process turns you inside out and makes you doubt everything you've ever done (it seems).  LUCKILY I'm a genius and it's the case that by the time I've heard from my last EA school, classes will be over and I'll have a month to galavant around Paris and Europe as I see fit to either console myself or celebrate myself before returning to the States.

I think it's nicer to send out the rejections earlier. It would be so much worse to apply in september and get rejected in may than to be told in january; you'd spend so much time obsessing and getting your hopes up before they were crushed. Though I agree it would be horrible to have your first response be a rejection.
Title: Re: Decision Dates for Last Year (UPDATED WITH DING DATES)
Post by: UGAfootballfanatic on November 13, 2005, 04:44:59 PM
I understand the reasoning behind sending out early rejections, and as an applicant I would apprecciate that. By getting a reject in December, you still have to time to apply somewhere else (perhaps more appropriate a target?) to make up for the reject if you must. I know we all apply to super-reaches in the hope the adcomm is having a good day, but do you blame them for wanting to get the easy rejections out of the way and off their desk? Let's put it this way- with my 160 LSAT, harvard woudl probably laugh at me and send me a reject before my file is complete.
Title: Re: Decision Dates for Last Year (UPDATED WITH DING DATES)
Post by: SkullTatt on November 14, 2005, 03:04:53 AM
I am in favor of getting a decision -- accept or reject -- earlier. I think after you wait until March for a few of these schools, then get rejected, you might feel the same. All those wasted months hoping for an acceptance when in reality the adcomm may have known right away you were going to get rejected.

I also, sadly, think it seems kind of mean to send out rejections before acceptances, but in a way it may make more sense. If you look at last cycle for any given school, there are many, many people in there whose numbers are so bad you go, "Oh my GOD, what were you thinking?"

They can't all have been astronauts or nobel prize winners. And besides, astronauts and nobel prize winners usually have good GPA's.

Well, last year USC had an EA option, where people were guaranteed to hear within 2 weeks of going compelte.  The reps I've talked to said they were *trying* to get out *some* decisions before the new year. So, we'll see how this one plays out...

(drumroll) Yale.   :o

even though i have no chance there, when you post this my heart stops beating.   :(

Haha.  Ditto.  Even though I posted it.   :D

If past patterns hold, it could be either today (last monday before X-Mas) or tomorrow (Dec 20th).  Will it be veeleigh?  Or JG?  Who'll take it?  Whose law school applictions will reign supreme?

Ok, I really need to stop with the espresso.

So apparently today was Yale's day.  I'm going to be willing my phone to ring for the next month solid, in spite of having no genuine expectation that it will (I mean, it probably will, but it'll just be my friends and family, and who wants to talk to them?)

(just kidding, mom  ;) )

I've already booked flights to Ann Arbor and Chicago and two schools in particular have taken so long *cough* Cornell *cough* *cough*GULC*cough* that I no longer have much interest in either (it didn't help that Michigan and NU don't require parental information for financial aid (for me at least) and GULC and CU do.).

Basically it call comes down to NYU. I just wish they'd send the reject letter so I don't have it hanging over me all this time. I've been comparing and contrasting NU and Michigan in my head for the last three weeks already. Still no consensus in my brain. I did hear from Wash U (email) yesterday, but they were a safety (sorta, I had three different types of safeties from Temple to Emory to Wash U)and became irrelevant after the NU and Michigan acceptances. C'mon NYU!

So how long does it take to receive decisions if you apply mostly in the first few weeks of November? I'm trying to go complete everywhere by Thanksgiving.

*- I put this next to Harvard because one person is reporting an acceptance on 10/21/07, not 11/21/07, however I believe this to be incorrect because a.) there were A LOT of people reporting acceptances on 11/21/07, but none were reporting any acceptances earlier than that except this one, and b.) the 10/21/07 acceptance has a "complete" date for Harvard as being 10/31/07, which leads me to believe it was just an oversight and he/she meant to put 11/21/07.

Interesting Notes
-Stanford seems to accept people a lot later in the cycle than most other schools.  Also, their acceptances are all over the place.
-Columbia only accepts a few in late November/December, the majority of their acceptances start at the end of January onwards.
-NYU accepts most (I would say upwards of atleast 85%) of their applicants in December and January.  Not as many rejections, it seems, from NYU as compared to the schools around it.
-Chicago sends most of its acceptances in January/February.
-USC rejections are sent out significantly later than everyone else's.
-All of WUSL rejections came in the month of April.
-Most acceptances to W&L seemed to be during December/January.
-All but one rejection to W&L was in April, the one not in April was on 05/09/08.
-Most rejections to GWU came in February and April.
-Seems like Boston just lets the applications sit there until the spring semester.

Hey, I don't know if the decision date stuff was uploaded into the file properly.  I see the header but not the actual graph.  Sounds like a great idea though!  Can't wait to see them!

What browser are you using?  I've tested it on Mac with Firefox and Safari.  I'll test it later today with IE and Firefox on Windows.  Thanks for letting me know.

IE

That might be the problem.  Do you have Firefox on your computer?  It really is a much better browser.  :-)  In any case, I'll try to see if I can fix it for IE.

The traditional death date of Confucius is 0479. It is given by the interpolated entry in the version of the Chun/Chyou text which is associated with the Dzwo Jwan. Maspero proposed that the actual date might have been a quarter of a century later, a proposal noted with interest by Waley and recently endorsed by Riegel. We have reviewed the evidence for the the dates and ancestry of Confucius, and we find that the traditional death date turns out to be generally sound.

The Confucius date problem cannot be solved in isolation; there are several related problems which must be considered at the same time. We here note some of the difficulties which a valid solution of this problem must resolve, and some of the implications which our solution suggests.
