im at 15, considering adding IU bloom, cardozo, kent, and vandy!

I wish money wasnt an issue, then I'd literally probably apply to every school that didnt require optional essays in addition to my current list.

Their admission website has it up...I was going to send mine in on the 31 but decided to take another day or two to look at everything one more time.

Okay, so they say "Although we encourage all Early Action / Early Decision applicants to get your application in by November 1st, due to the volume of applications we have received, we are extending the Early Action / Early Decision deadline until Monday, November 7, 2005."

What does that mean??  "Due to the volume...."  Like, they've received so many they want more?  You would think they'd only extend the deadline if not enough people applied by this date...

Anyone think they can explain this to me?

i think i'm addicted to filling out the forms at LSAC.  Every time I think I've applied to all my schools, I find one or two more that I "might as well" fill out.

Although my enchantment with the system was slightly diminished today when, after filling out a section of an app, the system booted me and didn't save anything. grrr.

You've applied to 7.  That's OK.  These people applying to 13, 15, 17 - I believe they actually do have a problem.

I think it means that GULC hasn't received as many applications as in past years.

Nice. All of my stuff is in, lsat and transcripts and LORS, I even have most of the applications themselves filled out. But those darn essays, the PS...it shouldn't be this big of a deal.

i've applied to 14, including 8 this past weekend. may still send out a couple more to schools that i'd love to study at (ie. minnesota, notre dame) with good scholarship prospects.

hoping a scholarship somewhere will make it $$$ worth it.

i mean, i'm kinda already set on where i want to go. the others are just to get more mail i guess, but i can't explain why i care enough to fill out the other apps?

anyone like this?

I think I consider a new school with every waiver just because this whole process is a bit unknown.  You can never be sure that you will be in and one of these schools that you applied on a whim may be a school you may end up just lovin' and will eventually become your number one once acceptances are rolled out.
Title: Re: I cant stop sending in applications.

in my case, I sent off a bunch as soon as they became available. then after about a month of contemplating my PS (which I though at the time I wrote it was very strong), I freaked out and sent out more with a completely new PS. it's my experiment to see how important the PS actually is. add in a bunch of few fee waivers and I found myself at 24. and I'm still contemplating Cornell...

Yeah exactly. Plus, some peoples' numbers suggest they must employ carpetbombing a broader strategy.

omg. i thought it was just me too. i am at 26. and considering two more since i am pretty sure that i will get dinged by almost all of the schools i did apply to.

with my numbers, i am one of those that feels the need to carpetbomb use a broad approach in my application strategy. i know what i want to get out of law school, and there are a good number of schools that will give me what i need, but my numbers leave me feeling uneasy.

Because I have specific criteria that some of them don't meet, because I've gotten into a school that I would go to over a bunch of the ones that I applied to, and because I realize that bargaining for money is probably not going to work for me.

I would agree for the obvious reasons... but I'd prefer not to rush some of the higher up places I've applied to. They need time to think about it, and soften up. =)

I HAD stopped at 18.  And to answer the question on how it's paid for -- all need-based fee waivers (I applied 2 months before receiving my LSAT score).

But then it was 10/31.  I'd had a "merit" waiver from GULC, I'd heard they'd extended their EA deadline and I wanted another EA school anyway.  Those are what got me to consider reapplying.

And then I remembered I had a paper.  That I didn't want to write.

I applied to schools 19 and 20 (BC and GULC, both EA) because I didn't want to do my homework.  At that point I realized I had a problem and vowed not to apply to anymore schools until I knew the dispositions of my EA apps.

Just out of curiosity, can the schools find out to how many and which schools their applicants applied?

i havent heard a definitive answer on this.  some apps ask you what schools youre applying to, nobody seems to know whether they can check to see if youre telling the truth

i havent heard a definitive answer on this.  some apps ask you what schools youre applying to

The one admissions director I talked to told me this was for marketing purposes.  To get a statistical feel for what pool of applicants they are drawing.  Are they getting mostly students who also apply to harvard or mostly students who also apply to cooley?  I told her the school was my top choice but of course I'm applying to others and she said to mention than on that part of the application.

I wonder if it really has any affect.  I mean, at worst we imagine they won't take you if they think you're going to go to a higher ranked school, but how many kids actually get yield protected?  Probably not many.

As well, Fordham asked for a list of schools and I gave them what was then a slightly different list, but nearly as big and with most of the schools I applied to being ranked higher than Fordham.  That doesn't seem to have prevented me from getting in.

Original plan a year and a half ago was to apply just to Temple, and then I added Villanova.  One LSAT score later, and I was up to 8 apps, then 10, then found myself drunk in the Holiday Inn in Buffalo thinking to myself, wow, this is a lot further from my house than Temple!

Now, I'm not too worried about applying early...and I'm not sending anything in this cycle until the score from a 2nd LSAT.  This time no carpetbombing...the next apps will be tactical strikes.
Title: Re: I cant stop sending in applications.

My advisor said they can find out how many you applied to, but not until the process is over and you are either accepted/denied.

I was worried about the "which other schools you applied to" question too (I didn't want to list all of them of course), so I left the question blank.  Some schools said optional and none said you had to answer.

I got the impression from her that a really big list may scare some schools away (how do they know how much you want to go there if you're applying everywhere), in addition to the stats thing (what pool is school x attracting?).  Her suggestion was to call each school and asked if a parital list would suffice or if they wanted a full list.

I would.  I only had one and my advisor freaked out.  It's nice to have a couple just in case.  And usually, since it's a safety, you can probably get a fee waiver.  I'd say have 2 or 3.

FWIW - My advisor mentioned that when you fill out the FASFA financial aid stuff in January, you can only list something like 4 schools first, then you have to file addendums (or something like this...)

So she said that the admissions dean at Richmond sometimes reviews your fin aid stuff to see if Richmond is one of your top 4 choices.  (I note this as Richmond is one of the schools which asks for a list of schools applying to, etc.)

Does this make sense? early monday blahs
