Not registered with a party... politics are libertarian except on foreign policy, where I believe we have responsibilities to the world's citizens.

so not even vote?

Texas does not require you to be registered with a party to vote in the primaries, you just can't vote in both primaries in the same year. I don't know if other states are that same way.

some states--probably most--have open primaries. but all require registration, even if only as independent.

You are required to register to vote in TX, but you do not specify any sort of party at all.

Liberal-NDP in Canada. I chose "other" because this was not an option.

In terms of pegging them along the political spectrum, they're way left of the democrats. The Canadian Conservatives would resemble the Democratic Party.

The mighty elephant.

I've always wondered why the central American political parties chose such unsexy mascot animals.

Not at all. But I've been weaning away from them, their policy proposals are far too "pie in the sky", if you know what I mean.

I tend to vote liberal 90% of the time.

Way too 'pie in the sky' and misguided at that.  Their approach toward immigration policy would effectively turn Canada into an free-for-all welfare state...more so than it already is.  Sorry, but if I was paying exorbitant ON taxes, I wouldn't want to be subsidizing people who export wages from Canada, but import their medical needs and leech the education system.

Canadians should always assume they are excluded from everything

I don't think I need to be an 'expert' (I'm assuming you are?) to voice an opinion.  Plus, I suppose by your logic you couldn't get into any discussion on American politics with me, considering that you haven't lived here at all ::)

Dude, I just don't like seeing taxpayers get robbed no matter which country they reside in.  Believe me, there are plenty of folks who take advantage of Canada's refugee policy to get some upstanding health care.  I don't know, I wish I had some health care right about now, but I'm not about to pull some stunt.

Is there an option for "Republican for 43 years, Democrat for 2 weeks?"

I agree with you.

Also, I'm not a fan of extreme taxation either, hence my move away from the NDP. But I will vote for them if the liberal platform resembles the conservatives a little too closely. Unfortunately, a minority government here induces compromise more than a majority.

You following Ignatieff's campaign?

Not closeted, just generally not interested in discussing politics on the internet most of the time. Every time I've done it, it's turned into a big stupid fight that has no end. I have decided that I prefer to be a spectator in that situation.

FWIW, yes, I call myself a Republican. I'm a social moderate and a fiscal conservative. I don't agree with either party all the time, but I agree with Republicans more.

Whenever I think of an ultra conservative Republican my mind pictures Denny Crane from Boston Legal.
