Title: List your pet peeves
Post by: CTL on May 06, 2009, 10:59:49 AM
My pet peeves:

-getting sunscreen in my eyes...it takes forever to get that *&^% out
-being tailgated by pick-up trucks
-people treating conservative talk radio like the news
-when I walk with a cup of coffee and a certain step makes a mysterious burst of coffee shoot out of the tiny hole in the lid, which usually lands on my white t-shirt
-people who talk about their babies all the time

Technically I have no party affliation, but for all intensive purposes I'm a pretty conservative republican...and like Tim, proud of it

Argh! Motherfucking this!! (http://irritationx.googlepages.com/emot-rant.gif)

intents and purposes. I know, I know.

Haha at "intensive purposes"

My two biggest pet peeves:

- people who eat and drink loudly
- people who talk in the library

I want to smack both groups.

People who smell awful
SBO elections at school where you cannot get to a single building without getting harassed
Close-minded people
Spelling mistakes
When you go for a job interview and they lead you on but then don't give you the job

We have a lot of pet peeves in common. I'm with you on the cell phones as well.

Slow drivers...and by "slow", I mean anything less than 5-10 miles above the speed limit.

Funny thing is, I just mailed in the payment to another speeding ticket today.  :-\

The person who keeps parking in my parking spot.  Seriously, I know s/he doesn't know the rules since they just moved in, but I've been there for 3 years and it's my effing space.  Back. the. hell. off.  Go purchase your city permit to park on the street, ya vagrant!

You actually got nailed going 5-10 over the speed limit?

Cops must be diligent where you are.

I always appreciated that cops in ON seemed to have better things to do than nail speeders.  Then again, when everyone drives 130-140km/hr, who is really speeding?

Exactly. Tim Hortons. It's nice having a semi-Canadian around to back me up. There's a 0.000001% chance you'll get nailed for speeding on the highway. I drove to London via 401 doing a constant 145k.

Actually, I tend to drive an average of 15-20 over on main roads - but I did get a ticket last summer on the Prince Edward Viaduct for going 25 over. The cop just cut me a ticket for 10 over with no demerit points.

It's funny, I was rushing to the UofT library downtown to return books that would have cost me 4 dollars on overcharge, and I ended up paying 40 for a speeding ticket.

In no particular order:
Sarcasm
People stopping in front of me, particularly at the end of an escalator
People blocking the door or trying to squeeze into a train or elevator when people are exiting
Stores that want to check your receipt, bag, or both when you are leaving: You're walking from the register with merchandise you purchased, and they want you to do a song and dance to prove you're not a criminal... bull.

Seriously. Sarcasm is an art form, and I appreciate those who can properly use it.
I agree with Oscar Wilde, that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.  There are instances where sarcasm can be humorous or witty, but those have lost their potency due to excessive snarky abuse.

Seriously. Sarcasm is an art form, and I appreciate those who can properly use it.
Sarcasm is frequently abused, particularly by the passive-aggressive, such as when it is used snarkily to deride a question or the person asking the question.
In most instances I agree with Oscar Wilde that it is the lowest form of wit.
While it can be used more wittily or humorously, just as you can make a (subjectively) brilliant work of art out of excrement, it's predominantly used in a more sophomoric manner.

General inconsiderate behavior, but one manifestation comes immediately to mind: when you go into the kitchen to get a drink or something, it's generally polite to ask others in the room if they want something.  To not do so is totes rude IMO.

I usually do this, but sometimes I forget.  Drinking doesn't help either.  I agree though.

If you usually remember, you're ahead of the game.

Oh, another one: when you have exclusively street parking and someone parks like a total tool and takes up the equivalent of two spaces (or if, in a crowded parking lot, someone takes up 2 spaces with their 1984 Datsun like it's a show piece).

I've been caught peeing on their cars.

In my neighborhood, someone snapped and cut a truck's valve stems on their tires.  It's an inexpensive fix, but the person had to have their truck towed.

My dad recently keyed up a guy's car for taking up too many spaces.  He parked diagnolly across two spaces so no one would ding it.

I misspoke...the person removed the valve stems with the same tool you're talking about :)

I was next in line at cvs and stepped to the side slightly to grab the kind of mints I wanted. The woman behind me jumped in front of me right at the guy in front of me left >:(

Blue, I hope you said something!  I would have told her (semi-politely, first) that I was in line.  If she didn't listen, Step 2 would be choking per CTL's instruction :)

I didn't say anything because it would have been snarky, " I leaned over to grab some mints and you got in front of me? Really?" And a lot of people would have heard

That crap happens to me every time I go to CVS.  Who cares if other people hear.  Look the person straight into their eyes and say in a strong firm yet semi-polite respectful way (not angry or yelling or bitchy, use the commanding voice tone) "I'm ahead of you in line, move back and wait your turn."

If they go d-bag on you with that then you stand up straight in proper posture and raise your voice a little and say straight to the persons face "back off I'm first, step aside now"

Just don't be shy and worry about what strangers you will probably never see again think and then you cash out and go home.

/done

Encore, encore.

You know what's worse?  When someone eats every last bit of a substance like nutella, by scraping it out of the corners of a jar using their fingers and then sucking on said fingers.

Not many people do this in front of company, but I find it repulsive.
