Do you think you guys will be oversubscribed this summer?  Sounds like that's going to be a problem this summer with several firms.

Don't know about my firm specifically, but it sounds like this will be a problem throughout

So far no offers... I'm in my 30s with kids.  attend top 6 school.  you think this kind of discrimination is a likely reason?  do you know if hiring committees try to avoid women with kids?  decent grades, attended over 30 interviews at OCI.  about 10 call backs.  so far nothing.

Care to be more specific? Above or below 65 hours a week?

have you mentioned the kids? I know this is a rough hiring season and I wouldn't be able to say one way or another. I will say that at my firm there were female partners who had kids when they summered, so I would be shocked if it happened here.

over 65 would be a bad week.

You shouldn't talk about your children during an interview--it's too personal.  To the extent that you talking about it indicates you won't be focused on your work, it will reflect poorly on you.  Law firms realize most people will attempt to have a life outside of the firm, but you shouldn't be emphasizing it.

Do you have any control over your schedule?  I've heard from people that it depends on what partner you are working for (whether (s)he likes to come in earlier in the day or later), but I was wondering whether you thought that was generally true?

also depends on the assignment. Some have long deadlines, that gives you a lot of control. Some have short deadlines and that reduces control. It really varies.

Any insight into the layoff rumors at Kirkland (I'm assuming you're there based on your prior posts)?

The numbers of people let go are too low to be layoffs. Shaving a million dollars off the balance sheet is not enough for a firm to bother with something as drastic at layoffs. Look at what White and Case and Latham are doing if you want to see what actual layoffs look like.

are you still taking questions?

i'm heading to a V20 and i wanted to know if i should kill self.

You mean are you going to have a job? Probably, depends on the V20. I feel like that bracket (10-20) is pretty diverse in terms of the types of firms there. Hard to compare Williams and Connolly with Shearman

I don't think Kirkland will pass Latham, these things don't move very far very fast.

you think non-Latham V10s will have offer rates similar to those in the past this summer?

look at shearman in this though: http://www.vault.com/nr/lawrankings.jsp?law2003=2&ch_id=242&top100=1

i mean i think you're probably right, but still.

At the time though, no other firms even close to their level were doing layoffs. Thats why they dropped so much

Depends on the firm. Some have smaller summer classes, and others, including those not in the best financial shape, have larger summer classes than last year.

Do you have any insight besides what's available on the internet?  If so I will narrow it down.
