Awwww I'm trying to decide whether to bring my dog with me to Philly or leave with her with my parents where she has a backyard and possums to chase.   :-\  I feel bad taking her to a city but I will miss her!

I'm thinking about August 15th. It'll give me about 2 weeks to enjoy Ann Arbor and meet with people there I already know from orientation, but it won't be so long that I'll get home sick and bored.

When does orientation start?  GW orientation starts the week of August 11th (classes start August 18th) and I'm moving like July 7th.  I feel like July is a bit early but I also feel like GW's orientation is a bit early.  Plus I went down to look for housing this past weekend and there wasn't any availability for August and I really wanted to nail something down.  I'm worried I'm going to be homesick and bored too haha.  I'm thinking about temping for the month.

Orientation for me starts Aug. 25, and I think I'll be staying in my hometown until the 21st for a concert, so maybe the 22nd or 23rd of August.  Plus moving as late as possible allows me to stay at work that much longer.

My orientation starts in mid-August and I'll be moving down in mid-June. There will be some overlap when I will be paying rent on 2 apartments, but I'm really excited to get out of where I currently live.

I want extra time to get to know a new area and to settle in. I've got to paint the apt, buy new furniture, get a pet, buy a car, etc.

aww get a pet.  where do you live now?

I live in DC. I love the city, but I'm in a bad roommate situation so I can't wait to move out.

I'm going to get a cat. I just won't have the time or energy for a dog during 1L.

I'm moving into my new place this month (almost done!).  But I'm only moving 45 miles away and can commute to my current job until the beginning of August.

Ouch on the gas prices!

I'll be moving from Chicago to Montgomery, AL around August 5th because that's when moving costs will be cheaper and I want to stay in Chicago for as long as possible but still leave a week or so to settle in before law school starts.

My orientation is on the 21st.  As much as I would like to make the move sooner to get acquainted I need to stay as long as possible and make money. I'm driving my car from So Cal to New York so I'll probably leave around the 10th to be there by the 15th.

I'll be moving in mid-july to give myself at least a month or so to get acquainted with the new area.

i'm moving at the beginning of August, but i'm quitting my job a month before then. i have to move across the country so i'm thinking of doing it the long way-- take it slow, backroads only, check out the sights, camping along the way... really see the country and make an experience out of it.

I'm moving across the country as well and wanted to do something similar, but it was just going to cost too much and wouldn't be too practical with small kids.  So, I'll be shipping a few things, and flying.  I hope to move around August 1 with orientation starting mid-August.

My mother drove across the states with me and my three siblings in our family van, ages 4, 9, 10 (me), and 15.  It was...memorable, to say the least.  Hahaha.

Are you hiring a moving company?

No . . . probably going to do the pod-type thing.  We will need to downsize considerably, so I think I can pack two mid-size pods with everything we need and then buy some bigger items and/or breakable items when we arrive.  I'm also going to sell our two cars here and buy just one when we arrive.

Yard sale?  That's what I'm doing and anything that doesn't sell - I'm going to donate.

Yep . . . and Craigslist.  Probably going to be more Craigslist than yard sale, as our weekends are pretty much booked for the summer already between my wife's schedule (wedding photographer) and other plans. There may not be time for a sale.  August is coming too fast!!!!

yeah, none of my stuff is worth enough to offset the cost of moving it, so i'm selling everything that won't fit in/on my car and buying new stuff there. it'll just be me and my dog and we'll be staying at campgrounds as we work our way across the country.

on the other hand, if you could find a way to do something like that with your kids (don't know how small they are), what a great experience it would be for them...
