Title: Anyone Get Results from their Trial Program Yet?
Post by: legalkitty on July 14, 2005, 09:39:56 AM
Most of us who did some kind of trial program this summer are finished and waiting for the results. Please let us know as they come in; I personally am waiting on Widener's TAP results. I think this is worse than the regular acceptance/rejection wait!!!!! :P

I am waiting for CLEO results...I got all of my grades back except my CrimLaw final.  The program was awesome and I encourage people to attend.  There was some misinformation on a previous thread about CLEO being for low performers, but there are are a few people going to T-14 schools in the program (Duke, Michigan, G-town, and Chicago in my particular institute), many more T-25, some t-50s and tier twos.  Yes, you pay 2k to go, but they give you plenty of opportunities to pick up more $$$.  For example, if you complete and turn in a journal while you are at CLEO, they give you a $100 book stipend.  You can also get up to $10k in scholarships (not hard to attain) based on financial need, and merit as well.  If you go to CLEO, many schools will consider that in reviewing your application.  They also do placement for those who are not yet in schools once they get to CLEO.  Wisconsin, Iowa, George Mason, Utah and UNC are a few schools that interviewed here, but there are more (I didn't need to interview).  One girl was admitted to Idaho on the condition that she complete CLEO.  Another has a conditional acceptance to BC.  Duke recommended CLEO to quite a few people here.  Most important is the preparation the program gives you.  We were given practice exams, mid-terms with one on one meetings to get feedback, and finals.  We also had a Legal Methods class.  Our assignments were the same assignments and exams that the school who hosted the institute gave to their 1Ls.  Anyway, enough about it...I'm sure you can tell I am really enthused about it.  If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me.

I am still waiting to get my grades back from AAMPLE. They said the week of the 18th, so it is coming down to the line. Hopefully I did well enough to gain admission. I agree that this wait is much more painful than waiting for the original decisions. This has been one of the longest weeks of my life...and the most anxiety filled.

Good luck to everyone waiting on grades!

That IS awesome!! Widener awards a scholarship to the person with the highest grades, but I am certainly not thinking about that. I just want to get in!!

Good luck everyone!

It is for people who the school feels would be successful in law school, but their LSAT scores are lower than the school average...so they put us in a trial program and make us prove that we can handle it. Each program has its own guidelines. The program that I was in required us to take two second year law classes online, over a two month period. To gain admission we need to maintain a certain GPA. However, the only thing that counts towards the GPA is the final in each class. It is rough, and a lot rides on how you do on the final, but it is worth it.

So did you get actual credit towards your JD degree?

You have to prove yourself to get admission? Don't all the materials (application, LSAT, trascript, PS, etc.) that you submitted proved enough?   Please tell me you don't have to pay for it and that you get credit for it!

The trial program I went to was not specfically for people to get admitted to schools, or for people with low LSATs.  There were plenty of people there who already had schools (a few t14 even).  The program does offer placement for those who do not have schools, but this is just one of the many benefits of attending.  Also, there were low LSATs AND high LSATs.  I am sure the people who did not have schools yet, or have low LSATs (or both) truly benefited from the program as far as practice and placement go.  The program has many other benefits for the people who have high LSATs and are admitted to the school they want to go to.  One of the major reasons people went to the program I went to (including myself) is for the scholarship $$$.

Congrats all!, I have been following Legal kitty's story and others and am so proud and have hope for many and myself possibly.

One question, is there a place that explains programs such as AAMPLE and CLEO in more detail and are they just school specific. I remember seeing that Nova had such a program.

CLEO is a program that is sponsored by the American Bar Association and is not school specific.  You can find more information about it at www.cleoscholars.org (http://www.cleoscholars.org).  There is a similar program in Indiana that is for all Indiana schools.  I am unsure about which schools offer their own version.  I know that U of AZ has a program called Bridge, where students can go early and get prep help.

Thank you,

I wonder if there is a place that lists all the schools that have such a program. I will take a look at the cleo website, thanks for the link

Law school forums are a great way to get this information, if you are close to one.

The AAMPLE program is Alternate Admission Program for Legal Education. I believe that Albany, NYLS, and Nova are the three that currently do that program. There may be others, but I am not positive.

Good luck! :) You can do it.
