We don't get grades until the first week in February.  So I'm not even thinking about it, or holding my breath.

Not 'til February.  That waiting must be worse than the exams.  Our torts mid-term was postponed because of bad weather and I'm in agony over that.

How did everyone do?  What grades did you get on all your exams?

Our grades will be posted in Jan but our Contracts prof has already graded our exams and he emailed our grades...I got a B...I almost cried...seriously.

Are these tears of sadness or joy ???????!!!!!!! As ridiculous as my K exam was, I think I'd be happy with a B.

I'll see your February and raise you no grades back until friggin MARCH.  The 2L's and 3L's tell us that our Property professor takes her time with the grades, but on the plus side she goes over your exam 2 and 3 times to make sure you get all the points you can get so she can take as long as she needs as far as I'm concerned, b/c Property....I can't even talk about it.

Yeah I have to agree with SMU, a B in Kontracts is not bad at all, seing as how even after an entire semester has passed nobody can still tell you what the hell a K is!

Our prof said that there is contract with a little c and contract with a big C.  So if you see a big C, it's a contract.

I dunno, I think if you see any BIG C's at this point then that probably means that you didn't understand what a contract was afterall.

Couple B's, couple C's. Passed sure. But don't feel so good. Third tier school. Mediocre grades at a mediocre school. Doesn't seem promising. Plus your first year grades are good indicators of the likelihood of your passing the bar exam on your first try. < sigh > Better buckle down and have a good Spring semester or doesn't seem like much point in continuing. Hope you all had better experiences.

It's a long way from 1L to bar exam.  A lot can change including you.  Don't listen to the nay-sayers.  Hang in there.

Even more than that, I'm finding that there are generally two types of law students...

Type A - the majority view.  They understand all the bits and pieces of the law, have all the mneumonics down cold, speak up every now and again in class, but don't understand the development of property law, don't understand why we have contract law, never stopped to take a step back and look at the big picture of tort law, etc.  The ironic thing is that when it comes to exams, they have enough memorized to squeeze out a B+ or an A-, but they really don't understand the law...just enough to do well on the exam.

Type B - the minority view. They understand the big picture.  The student who takes their time to digest the material and understand the relevance of the cases. Maybe even goes above and beyond by reading the cases in the notes as well just to gain more understanding. May not speak up so much in class because he/she is still internalizing all the angles.  By the end of the semester they have a comprehensive understanding of the law and how it works, but they may not have had time to gather all the pieces just yet that their classmates have probably memorized for the exams.  Depending on when the course clicked for them during the semester, they may get an A, or they might get a C.

Based on what the professors and other lawyers say, the type A student struggles to pass the bar, and there's a good chance they'll have to take it more than once.  Why? Because they didn't understand Civ Pro the first time around, let alone 3 years later on a bar exam. The Type B student however gets in and out and nails the bar the first time.

Moral of the story...sometimes you know more than you think.

I'm hearing more and more of my friends at other law schools are getting their grades back and not liking it.

Knowing my grades are not coming until at least February I just can't get too excited about it yet.

My dog did have the surgery. It has went better then I could have hoped. She slept the first few nights, and has been walking around on her leg ever since. We are doing rehab now. We will do leg stretches and walk more and more until summer. If it wasn't for the cold, I would enjoy the walks.

As far as my graeds go...I am not usually one to brag. I can tell you that no one that I go to school with will know my score, but since none of you know me, I don't mind telling you. I actually set the high score for my torts class, and my research class. I don't know what my K score is yet, but I am hoping to pull the hat trick :)

Of course I am happy, but it is a bit of a concern. If you read my post torts exam thread, you will see that I didn't think that I did well. I still don't know how it happened. I can only imagine that there are allot of dumb people in my class  ;D

One of the reasons that I don't want anyone to know my score is because of study groups. After I scored the highest on the K midterm, I told one person in my study group. She then went and told a few people (I trusted her to keep it silent, such a mistake will not happen again). I then had people asking me questions and wanting to "study" with me. What they were really after was for me to tell them all my secrets. I don't mind working together, but it has to be more symbiosis then parasitic.

The real shame of it all is that law school fosters this competative nature. If I help people in my class, it will hurt me by making the curve shift. Such a shift will likely take me more towards the middle. You see, if they toss the forced bell curve, I would tell everyone everything.

Well, anyway, I don't mind helping here. As you see, my reasons for remaining silent is to avoid people asking me things, and wanting to take advantage of me. Then there is also the bell curve thing... anyway, I don't have to compete with any of you, and I can ignore posts if I don't want to answer.  ;D

ps. This will be the last time I speak of this. I hate the people who walk around with big heads. I don't want to be one of them. I think one should accept victory as humbly as they might accept defeat.

I agree duma. It took me almost until the end of the first semester to recognize the difference in the symbiotic and the parasitic. Those who give shall receive!

If you read my post torts exam thread, you will see that I didn't think that I did well. I still don't know how it happened.

I felt the same way with my contracts exam.  I almost got into a car wreck on the drive home from the exam because i realized that I hadn't mentioned statute of frauds on the last hypo.  I was certain that I would not do well (meaning, get an A or A-).  I found out yesterday that I made an A and almost sh!t a brick!

It is a forced curve, and a C is average. What is "good" depends on your perspective.

Just got two grades back: B in Criminal Law and A in Legal Research Writing, haven't got rest of grades yet, and grades are due to registers office by the end of the week, I am almost sure that 2 of my professors will be waiting until the last minute, since they are always extremely late for class, (I am sure I can expect high quality grading there :-\)
