Well U of Minn is ranked very high and it's public so the price would be much less...but I suppose you have some scholarship offers as well to consider.

Well, UM would only be much less expensive as long as Todd actually lives in Minnesota.  For out of state students, it's still $24,000 a year.

Todd - Any of those schools would be a fine choice.  Where do you want to work after graduation?  Do you know what fields of law you're primarily interested in?  Those two questions would help narrow the choices down a bit... and tell you whether you want to wait for a school that's on your waitlist (although at this late date, it might be unlikely that you'll be admitted, unfortunately).

Thanks Big Daddy! Next time I need an unqualified opinion, I know to whom I will turn. The choice is not that simple. Wake is also in the top tier and the name seems to carry more weight despite the fact that they are lower in the rankings.

You're the one asking for opinions of law schools from people who have never been before...you don't want our unqualified opinion, don't ask.

My point is that you really cannot go wrong with either choice. I know there are alot of rankings whores who say "if you're not top-14, don't bother"....bull.
Go to a school you will enjoy for three years, that will help you in your studying and THAT is what will help you get a job....grades, not rank

Depends on where you want to work after you go to school- MN gets rather cold in winter, and I dont know how well they place nationally...Id assume they have decent placement in Chicago maybe, but this is just random guessing.  If you like the East Coast better, go Wake

Pittsburgh is also in the top tier, of course. That would be my choice among your listed schools.

It most certainly DOES make a difference which of those schools you attend.  As yourself WHERE DO I WANT TO LIVE?  Don't worry about what area of law interests you, as most law schools do not produce specialists (even if they "rank" on the USNEWS specialty list), and most big firms don't want to hire specialists, with the possible exception of IP people.  Also, the rankings should be only one factor in your calculus.  Not that helpful, I know, but unless you know where you want to live, there's no answer to your question.

If you are set in going to the South ( atlanta, jacksonville) I would go to Wake b/c they have a solid rep in the south

lifeofanarchy--

you and i actually have very similar situations.  i am waitlisted at almost all of those schools as well and also got into the university of minnesota.  i went to minnesota's accepted students weekend and was impressed;  however, in the end, i just couldn't move from dc to minneapolis.  i am from houston originally and can't do the midwest winters.  also, my friends are in dc.  were those good enough reasons to turn down a top twenty school?  i don't know.  time will tell, i guess.  i know, though, that i will be much happier at the school i chose--american.  rankings are imporant, but they are not everything.  those are all good schools, and, if you do well, you shoudln't have a problem finding a decent job when you get out.  go where you will be happiest and/or where you want to practice law when you finish.

good luck!

Thanks Caroline! Its nice to hear from someone who is in the same situation. I think I ruled out Minnesota also. (No 20 below zero winters for me).  ;)

Shcwing as for your question, I am 22 LSAT 162, GPA 3.67 from Franklin & marshall. I was told that my GPA held more weight at some of the schools that knew about the rigorous standards of F&M.

Hands down, Minnesota.
