Thank you soooooooooooooooooo much. You have no idea how relieved I am now. Now I can finally go to sleep every night in peace. hahahah. Too bad I lost my cell phone, and hence all of my contacts, cuz if I had them, i would be calling the whole world about now!

I'm gonna rain on this little party.  Why the hell did you start this thread without giving any context?  If you're not gonna provide numbers and details of how the acceptance came, don't post the thread cause it's not helpful at all.

so the point of every thread should be to help?  Maybe the op just wanted to tell someone they got accepted.

Start an entire thread devoted to shouting out to a bunch of strangers that you got accepted to law school?!?  There should be some sort of reciprocity.  Besides, the first post after that is always "congrats, what are your numbers?"

Well you didn't have to be so rude in the first place.

BTW- congrats to the OP.

Whoa, chill!!
All you need to do is ask. and I actually don't feel guilty about shouting out my joy, because I feel that this board has morphed a bit into some kind of a support group as well.

But if you must know, my numbers are not stellar
LSAT 168
LSDAS GPA 3.8

I canceled my score a few times.

And the notification came in a regular business envelope today. I have been waiting for it since tuesday, which is when status check told me it went to decision.

I am East Asian, so no URM I guess.

Can't you just be happy for me?

I understand the argument that it is "selfish" to post an acceptance without giving stats/dates/etc, but I think it's just as "selfish" to expect every single post to be useful to you personally.  Why be rude?  Let dreamer1 enjoy his/her acceptance.

Congrats, dreamer!!

My post wasn't directed straight at dreamer...hell, I didn't even apply to G-town.  It was more just a general annoyance...every 10th post is somebody just yelling "I GOT ACCEPTED!!!!!"...with zero reference at all.  Maybe if you've been posting about your dream to attend this school in other threads and you wanna share that joy...post it in that thread.  If you wanna start your own thread dedicated to your acceptance, give us a little context...that way we can be genuinely excited for you.  That's all.

I don't know about you, but I have always been encouraged by other people getting into schools, especially those with similar numbers to mine. Also, it provided some time reference as to when I "might" hear. Of course, I have been jealous, but I have also been glad for people.

And when I said my numbers were not stellar, well I guess it's cuz I have seen so many people with numbers that make my eyes pop out. And I really had some hell of a luck with the LSAT. I cancelled my score twice and the second time I canceled was because I had entered my answers wrong on the answer sheet. Yeah I felt like a real idiot. It was literal HELL. So regardless of what my LSAT score was, I never knew how schools would be two cancellations. I guess it's all relative....

Honestly, here's the thing: When you get accepted somewhere, you just want to jump on a roof and shout it to the entire world.  Unfortunately, in the real world, acting in this manner is a social no-no.  So you do the next best thing: You go on the Internet and create a post shouting about how you got accepted.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's just human nature.  And what better place to find an appreciative audience than a message board filled with people who are going through the same stress that you are?

Congrats on your acceptance.  Georgetown is a fantastic school and DC is an awesome city.

that's the whole point, that numbers would have helped.  i'm not going to be encouraged if someone gets into harvard and doesn't give a context.  for all i know, that person was an auto-admit, and that says nothing about my chances.

but yes, congratulations on your first acceptance!  your numbers are great, and i bet you'll get into some higher ranked schools still.

This is funny.  It looks like you are saying "thanks be to God" and then sorta laughing it off. "I'm just kidding, God can go finger herself (hell yeah, ladies!).   it's so funny to mention God.  8)."

But congratulations to you on Georgetown.  And the above is not intended to suggest anything regarding religion except for the sake of the joke.

no, that's not the translation at all.  did you actually READ what dreamer1 said that i was replying to?  he said he gets encouraged when people, especially with numbers similar to his own, get into schools.  he's saying that he likes that, but he's not giving anyone else the same benefit.  and on that same token, gtown starting sending letters back in november, so this wouldn't be like, "oh look, gtown is sending decisions now!"  they've been doing it for 2 months.  it would have been helpful if he said when he was complete or when he applied if he wanted to convey the "when you might hear back" aspect.  (personally, i wouldn't have offered that info immediately either, though someone would have asked soon enough.)

everything he said to justify his original post, he didn't accomplish himself.  so your reply to me should actually go to him.

Amen to this.  I'm really happy for everyone who got accepted, but it only takes 10 seconds to type your LSAT, GPA, other notable stats, AND the date you applied.  That's what I'm really looking for everytime I read an acceptance thread for a school I applied to.

I'm sorry I started this whole thing.  I'm sure dreamer was so giddy he/she didn't think to even bother including the numbers.  My post was more meant to be a shout to the entire board "PLEASE REMEMBER TO INCLUDE INFO WHEN YOU POST THIS"  That's all, nothing more.  I did it in a poor way cause I'm still in a foul mood after being stuck in my car for 8.5 hours because of two measily inches of snow.  Sorry.

Here's the thing, people.

dreamer1 posted that he/she had been accepted to Gtown.

A normal person says, "Congratulations", and moves on.

They don't complain, like Draino, that there's no "context". WTF is that?

Nor do they say, "It's hard for me to be encouraged if someone gets into harvard and doesn't give a context."

What?

You realize that this statement not only directs the attention away from dreamer1 but places it squarely on YOU.  So, either subconsciously or not, you've shoved in dreamer1's face the fact that you're applying to harvard.

If you wanted dreamer1s info, ask.  But don't blame him/her if they don't supply it.

This is a moment they will never forget.  Let them enjoy it- for the love of God.  dreamer1 shouldn't have to "justify" anything to anybody.

Congratulations dreamer1.

I swear to you not everyone is this self-centered in law school.  Good luck.

Heard about that.  NC truly is sad when it comes to snow.  When I worked there, they would shut down the plant for an inch of snow.  As a finance guy, that didn't make me too happy.

i was pointing out the inconsistencies of his/her own statement.  someone says "hey, give us context," and he/she says "i like when there's info about who got into my school."  okay, but you didn't give any, and that was the point.  and i illustrated an analogous situation.

dreamer1 supplied requested info as soon as he was asked.  Did he have to?  No, he did not.  He did it out of kindness.  The golden rule doesn't exactly have legal ramifications on an internet message board.  May he likes to watch monkeys eat bananas?  Does that mean he should let the monkeys watch him eat bananas?  He could, but he doesn't have to.

This is not the time for logic- but instead the time for compassion and triumph and congratulations.

dreamer1's source of joy is first and foremost a source of joy- try not to leech off of it the second it's released, would you?  That's just tacky.

Person One:  I'm gettied married!  Look at the ring!

Person Two:  I'm looking at rings myself- the man I'm marrying is much cuter.  Just so I'll know for research, how much did it cost, when did you buy it, what size, etc...

I feel sick.

Amen.  I don't see why everything on this board has to be about how it benefits everyone else who is also on the board.  If I got into my dream school (which will probs not happen) the last thing I would think of is how to tell people so that it might give them a glimpse into their own chances at said school. Likewise, I do not expect anyone else to think of me when they are basking in their own glory and achievements.  I, for one, would be too busy pissing my pants.

I think I spend too much time here.   :P

I'm still totally with Draino's original response on this one.  When I read acceptance posts for any school I applied to, the primary reason I'm reading it is to discern information about my competition, and in turn my own chances.  The first thing I thought when I read the OP was, "I'm glad you got in, but this tells me nothing.  Why did I just read it?"  I know Draino and I aren't the only 2 people in the world who thought that, and it doesn't make us "selfish bastards".  It just makes us curious for information about the schools we applied to.  The point everyone should take away from this discussion is that when posting acceptance or denial messages, it's very helpful to include the following information everytime: LSAT, GPA, other relavant factors such as WE, and the date you applied.

Summary of this thread (hopefully with tact)...

Congrats, dreamer1!!! That's wonderful. Enjoy it, savor it, and be proud of yourself.  That's an impressive accomplishment.

P.S. In the future, let's all (edit here) be sure to: ensure the title is indicative of the school the OP was just accepted to, add our numbers, and explain how the news came so as to "give back" to those congratulating us. That way we're ALL feeling the warm fuzzies.

Better, Pookes? BTW, I have to say it's the absolute most hilarious thing on earth that I would be thought of as tactful.  My friends and family would laugh louder than me watching "Dumb and Dumber" for the 300th time if they heard that.  "Big gulps, huh? Welp, see ya later!"

Oh my. oh my..

I am starting to regret that I ever had the idea to post things.

As to providing numbers, bear in mind that I am not averse to providing the numbers. It's been provided several times in this board and if y'all just wanna know from now on, my lsn is nikoniko.

So fine, in my excitement numbers were not the first thing that I thought about, ok?

Sheesh.

I did provide them. I have no idea why this is becoming such a freaking issue. What happened to being happy for other people? I am not the first and only to post anything on this board without first providing numbers. and I don't think that makes me a horrible person.

dreamer, don't worry about it: you didn't do anything that other people haven't done many times before.  and doesn't the saying around here go "if you don't want to read something, or if it doesn't pertain to you, then move on to something else?"

I think that's decidedly your problem.  It isn't the role of the poster to ensure that their posts contain information of value to you.  Asking someone follow-up questions to find out how you can interpret their success in relation to your prospects is fine.  Chastising someone for sharing their excitement and enthusiasm because it tells you nothing seems to me to be the height of self-importance.

Big congratulations to Dreamer - it's nice to see someone receiving good news!

Oh my.

Sheesh.

I would give you my first born for your numbers, congratulations on your acceptance!!!

I did provide them. I have no idea why this is becoming such a freaking issue. What happened to being happy for other people? I am not the first and only to post anything on this board without first providing numbers. and I don't think that makes me a horrible person.

But if you must know, my numbers are not stellar
LSAT 168
LSDAS GPA 3.8
. . .

Can't you just be happy for me?

I'd say your numbers are fabulous, your GPA rocks mine hands down.  I am more than happy for you.  I'm not in at GULC, but as a Hoya (from undergrad) I'd like to say congratulations.  A lot of people are still waiting to hear, so they might be a bit testier than usual.  It can be very disheartening to read countless "I'm in!" threads when you're still not in anywhere or not in where you want to be.  I wouldn't take it personally, be proud of your accomplishments and if others can't be right now, that's none of your concern.  They will get in somewhere and be just as excited I'm certain.

I saw your name as the last poster in this thread, I got excited. I thought you got in.  It's only a matter of time...

Speaking of G-Town, their site just updated.  My status did not change, but the site did update.

Oh, and congrats, dreamer1.  I don't think there was anything wrong with your 1st post.  People can ask nicely for the info they desire.

You're damn right it's my problem when I have no idea how someone who was accepted compares to my LSAT, GPA, or application date.  That's why I replied to the post.  And I wasn't "chastising".  I was making a very pertinent request for others on this board to follow.  It seems to me that not taking the 10 seconds to provide background info when posting a decision thread is much more thoughtless and selfish then the mere act of asking somebody for such info that wasn't provided, which is all I'm doing.

And since the OP has already provided this information, I'm making a general point here for all future posters.  I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to be helpful in this manner to everyone else who reads their posts.  By habitually providing this information with every decision post we will completely circumvent future discussions such as these.

From your mouth to Andy Cornblatt's ears.  My old boss talked to him and he's personally reviewing my file.  Hope that means good things!  I just saw that you put up photos on the GUBA yahoogroups, HA!  That photo of us is HILARIOUS!  I hope law school will have as many druken moments.  What will I do without my collage of druken photos with you?

PS If I DO get in someplace, I'll be emailing EVERYONE I'VE EVER MET to tell them about it.  Rest assured you're on the list.  Why isn't JFW on this board?  Or is he and I just don't know?

Nor do they say, "It's hard for me to be encouraged if someone gets into harvard and doesn't give a context."

What?

i was pointing out the inconsistencies of his/her own statement.  someone says "hey, give us context," and he/she says "i like when there's info about who got into my school."  okay, but you didn't give any, and that was the point.  and i illustrated an analogous situation.

dreamer1 supplied requested info as soon as he was asked.

LOL and yes, this is kinda how this whole "request for information" comes across.

Congrats Dreamer1!!!!!

I just want to bump my apology and make it clear that I realize what I said was completely out of line and words of a total jack-ass.  I was in a terribly irratible mood after sitting through the insanity that was Raleigh traffic on Wednesday and I said something way more harshly than I felt or intended it to be.  I should have simply started a thread asking poster to please remember to include information if they so desire when they post an acceptance so that 1) we can understand their excitement better and 2) gain some incite ourselves.  Not sure why I was such a jackass yesterday, but if I can't just supply useful information like I used to without being a jack-ass, I'll be canceling my account.  Congrats again dreamer and my apologize to the board as a whole.

Sorry.

We all make mistakes.  Were to God more of us were capable of realizing and apologizing for them.  Thanks, draino.  Can we end this painful ride now?

That sounds a little too kinky for me.  A tossed salad for breakfast is not my idea of a great start to the morning, but to each her own I guess.  ;)

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Were you born in the United States or did you immigrate to this country?

Whoa, chill!!
All you need to do is ask. and I actually don't feel guilty about shouting out my joy, because I feel that this board has morphed a bit into some kind of a support group as well.

But if you must know, my numbers are not stellar
LSAT 168
LSDAS GPA 3.8

I canceled my score a few times.

And the notification came in a regular business envelope today. I have been waiting for it since tuesday, which is when status check told me it went to decision.

I am East Asian, so no URM I guess.

Can't you just be happy for me?

I certainly was not born here, although I am a US citizen right now. I moved to the states about 10 years ago from South America. But I was born in Asia.

And to all of you who thought I was a 'he,' I am actually a 'she'
lol.

And I have no significant work experience. Graduated May '04 from a small private college in NY.

i find the way you highlight your posts in red offensive...btw why do you think the moderators should do anything about comments, it is an open discussion and they are not being paid, nor are you paying and/or being forced to participate....take heed, that was some good advice
