Title: High LSAT Score Qualifies for Mensa
Post by: Jgunnz on December 30, 2004, 10:01:08 PM
FYI: Anyone with an LSAT score of 163 (or higher) after September 91 qualifies for MENSA US. You have to cough up a $30 application fee, and $62 bucks a year to be a member but hey, it's MENSA.

I got this off their website:

Qualifying Test Scores

American Mensa accepts scores from approximately 200 different standardized intelligence tests. Often potential members have taken acceptable tests at other times in their lives and may not realize that they already qualify for membership. While not a complete listing, applicants frequently ask about the following tests...

LSAT
prior to 1982 662
1982 through 5/91 39
effective 6/91 163

Wow.  Only 163?  Mensa says their membership is restricted to "people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population".  I wonder why scoring in the 90th percentile on the LSAT is good enough?

It's the top 2% of a normal distribution, so LSAT takers aren't normally distributed they often tend to be right skewed.

Oh yeah, I wasn't thinking about that.  The mere fact that we took the test means we rule! :)

Dude you are such a charlatan. You scored 156 the first time so maybe MENSA should look at this score. Its so ludicrous. Why dont you have THAT next to your avatar? You can take the LSAT 50 times and luckily score above 163 and then come here full of self congratulation. You are real pathetic....

I certainly have nothing to prove to you David Bornberg, however Iím glad you've been keeping up with my other posts where I freely admit I scored a 156 in October. I post a 166 on my avatar because that was my score in December and I can post my scores however I choose, I have nothing to hide. It wasn't my best day in October; hopefully the Adcomms will be more understanding than you.

Does trying to bring down other people give you some sort of high? I've looked at all eleven of your other posts, on nearly every one of them you were insulting someone in some way, it seems that's all you do here on LSD. I know acting brash and outlandish are fine skills for any lawyer to have. Good work!

last I heard, you can use the MENSA membership card as a VIP pass and get into Manhattan's ultra-hot clubs.

I've played with the thought of MENSA on and off again over the years. I was admitted as a child but haven't kept up the dues. What is the point exactly? From what I've read of the average IQs of attorneys, pretty much the entire profession has or could get membership, soooooo..... what do I get for the dues paid? We have USAA for car insurance, and that beats the pants off of Geico any day of the week. Will it enhance my career in some way? I once read a list of movie stars with MENSA memberships (inc. Sharon Stone and Geena Davis) and it kind of turned me off.......

In fact, the fact that it takes everyone higher than friggin 90 percentile turns me off. What the hell is this, Joy Luck Club? Why the hell does everyone get the join the goddamn MENSA? I once thought it's a prestigous thing, now it's just something that every regular idiot can get just simply by paying some dollars to take a few extra LSATs

People who take LSAT are probably (possibly a lot) smarter than the rest of the population. So top 10% of LSAT takers could easily be top 2% of population.

the assumption is people don't study for IQ or standardized tests.

Who makes that assumption? I don't see the relevance.

on the flip side, someone who really bombs (I mean really bombs) the LSAT could kill someone and claim a low IQ as defense?

So how much is this Geico discount?  Does it make it worth joining Mensa?  The only person I have ever known in MENSA was my jr. high teacher's husband and he is permanently unemployed & doesn't bathe.

How is that possible. I am sure he at least bathes one a month from disgust let alone hygene.

Joining Mensa is retarded, a paradox in itself.  I'm freaking smart, ergo, I'm going to flush $100 a year or whatever to prove this.  Nevermind me having a JD or a BA, I need Mensa.  I look down on Mensa members.  Joining this organization is more retarded than Julie (I kid :D).

Does it look good on a resume though?

Who knows?  I don't.  I would hope it would count against the person that put it down on their resume.  I would.  It's all about pride and whathaveyou.  You have to pay to join the organization and take a dumb test (or get high test scores on other standardized tests).  It's like the dumb kid in high school that put down "Who's Who" on their application.  Like I said on another thread, I remember hearing that admissions committee members usually laugh when they read stuff like that because you pay to be a member.  Now don't nobody come back at me and say "well, I had to pay to join my frat/special interest club" since it is not the same thing.  If any of you apply for a position under JtheM, and list f-ing Mensa, I'm tossing your damn application in the trash can :D.

I'm sure he probably does bathe at least once a month....I just don't don't think he actually uses soap or deodarant because he always smelled like a scary combination of B.O. and cigarettes.
