What are you gonna be able to tell them in 15 mins.?  Their order could be different, I just don't see how you could really give them any information that is actually going to make any difference.

All true, but in 15 min you could very easily give a whole plethora of information to completely screw them over.  ;)

Not that I'm really offended, but I guess one of my many, many quality character traits is to play devil's advocate and make an ass of myself.

It's a little transparent how duplicitous minority dealings are in America when attitudes that wouldn't dare be expressed about one ethnic group can be expressed and are accepted about another group simply because of their perceived relative success.

Can I make a disparaging comment about Blacks: "AIDS, that's all I have to say"?  No.  Do I think I should be able to?  That's a different story, of course.  I'm just saying that it's completely bogus that Asians put up with darn.

Unnecessary PC police moving on now - continue your conversation.

Uh, are you serious?

1.  The point of this thread was to make fun of some people's paranoia of the Asian continent having some advantage to test information.

2.  The off topic discussion that ensued was brought about by what I believe are posters of asian descent, and probably in a lighthearted attempt to mock the fact that we are, as a nation, very pc.

3.  Your analogy about African Americans makes no sense.

That really only works in South Africa. It's extra effective if you casually mention that the country was much less chaotic under Apartheit.

I think the example you meant to use is "You got any crack?"

Again, I'm not really offended.  I'm just trying to point out inconsistencies.  And regarding my analogy - SARs refers to the Asian mainland.  AIDS refers to the African mainland.  And AIDS isn't rampant just in South Africa.  It's a huge problem in all of Sub-Saharan Africa, from Uganda to Kenya to etc..., which includes much of the continent.

Yeah, but South Africa(or at least it's government) takes the AIDS epidemic personally.  IN other African countries, it's viewed as a problem, not an insult.

I met this really hot asian girl while I was waiting in line for the lsat today at pace law school.. her name was Rena..

We talked again during the break (she was in a different room but our breaks happened to be at the same time) and we were planning on seeing eachother again after the test, so I delayed asking her for her number.... but our test ran late because of our proctor, and I guess she assumed I ditched her, because by the time I got out, she was gone! :(

Not to sound too tribal but I would prefer a JAP over a hairy Indian or an Asian girl with a subpar body. Asians and Indians constituted 50 percent of my undergraduate student body so don't tell me the sample is unrepresentative.

Yes, you do sound too tribal.  90% of the rest of this country would prefer a Desi or Asian girl over a JAP.

While on the topic of Asians I'd like to say three things

1)  They are definitely going to take over the world someday (and are currently in the process)

2)  I really really really REALLY want to hook up with a hot asian chick  :-*

3)  I've found that a funny asian is, on average, WAY funnier than your normal funny person

Hairy Indians and Asian girls with subpar bodies ARE underrepresented. And so are Asian guys who are short and parade about in wifebeaters.

Oh and it did sound tribal.

They do have tatoos it is just that they are so scrawny that the wifebeater covers up the areas where they have tatoos.

90 percent of the rest of the country? What is the other 10 percent that is not part of the "rest"? If you mean the rest of the country apart from me than a better estimate would be 99.9999999... percent. Anyways if you think that 90 percent of the country prefers DESI girls than you also have to mean that approximately 80 percent of women are "lesbians with an affinity for Indian girls". The male population of the U.S. is around 50 not 90. You just got pounded.

I said that 90% percent of the country would prefer a Desi or Asian girl.  Prefer is not a synonym for 'wants to @#!*'.  It is very possible for a woman or man to 'prefer' the company of a particular woman without wanting to @#!* her.

The sake of the balance, most Asian test centers are in the capital city, so many Asian test takers have to travel far and spend a lot of money to take the LSAT.

In my case, I took a 1 1/2 hour plane ride.
Stayed in an unfamiliar hotel room (didn't sleep well).
Woke up extra early on the test day and worried about getting to an unfamiliar test center (location, room, proctors and etc...).

The students who roll out of bed and walk to the same lecture hall as their ECON course- they have the advantage!

Add to that, I've spent years in another country communicating in a different language....

The grass is always greener folks!

Good luck to all of you with the apps!

Gaijin can't even go into some clubs and stuff, right?  On the other hand, I have heard of Americans going over there and raking in massive amounts of $$ because of the volatility and lack of regulation in their securities markets.  The other thing I heard is that the Yakuza are involved in almost everything, including the economy.  Sounds like a pretty crazy place for an American.  Were there lots of Americans trading at the stock exchange?

Hiya Phanatic,

Nice thread you've started.  I'll certainly keep it alive.  I've been in Japan for the most of the last ten years (in the countryside, no less- so my English is suffering as of late).  I'm a pasty guy from the N.E. too (Boston).  I enjoyed your posts on the term "gaijin".  Actually, "gaijin" is a derogatory word (outsider), whereas gaikokujin (other country's person) is more polite.  To me, "gaijin" is the N-word here in Japan...I confront Japanese who use it.

If you're interested in what I'm doing here, check this out:

Law school will certainly help!

Phanatic,

Tough question.  First, I'm very removed from the expat culture, as I do not live in a major metro area.  I don't know anything about the traders.  However, I can say that on a macro-level, it's the opposite.  Japan is a one-way street in terms of trade and many other things.  Just about 40% (I'm being conservative here) of what you see in U.S. stores is Japan made- or Japanese controlled.  Just about nothing here is via the U.S.

With that in mind, I'm not sorry to see a few U.S. traders 'making bank' here in Japan  ;) if that's really the case....

Geez
Title: Re: Asian Chat: Brought to you by the pasty Phanatic

I forgot to answer the other part of your question.  No matter how long a foreigner has lived here/no matter how good their Japanese is...a 'gaijin' is just a 'gaijin'...and not Japanese.

When I tried to hail a taxi to get to the test center on Sunday morning, no less than six empty taxis drove by...until one kind soul stopped to pick me up...

Remind the Japanese tourists of this (next time you run into some).

Geez

I am going to whoever accepts me  ;) Basically, Temple is 1st choice, then Rutgers and Villanova.  There are others but those three are tops. Are you at a university over there? I was asking because my undergrad has a campus in Japan.

oh yeah, that trash thing is f-ed up. I can't even recycle my beer cans  ::)

Anyways, yeah..thats me too, anybody who accepts me...1st choice Yale, 2nd UGA, 3rd Miami...

Im not a student here.  Im on the JET Programme..ever heard of it?  Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme.  I work for the board of education in Nagasaki Japan.  I teach elementary and jr.high schools in the public school system. Its cool...but...i mean ya know how it is...everythings got its ups and downs right...this is my 2nd year here and my 5th time in Japan...what about you, what do you do?

No Cracka I have not heard of that.  Sounds like a good experience for you, though.  Phanatic is just doing his thing, trying to finish up his BS and working in a office in Center City Philadelphia.  Are you teaching english over there?  I have a buddy who went to China and taught english (I think the only reason he did it was he wanted to find a chinese bride)

Notice that I acknowledged that there were married women. Just not as many in number as married men, IMO.

That said, you're a jackass.   :)

Pasty's are imperialist bastards.  They don't like asian competition in this realm, just look at what they did when Japan thought they could be the new Imperial force in the world.

White man is the devil.
