No kidding.  They haven't yet LOOKED at my file.  I guess that's what you get when you apply in February.

Where did you hear/see that?
The Asst. Dean of Admissions, Jamie Hammers, sent me an email on Friday saying I was selected for the Dean's Scholarship. She said: "In the next few days you will receive a formal scholarship award letter that will provide additional information".

My letter just said that the scholarship would be renewable for 3 years, as long as I maintained a 2.9 (which is top 70% for this year's 1L class).

Yeah, the 2.9 is also a requirement for me. Did you get the actual letter in the mail yet? I'm still waiting...

Yea, I got a letter in the mail.
It just outlines what you're getting and what you have to do to keep it.
That's all.

It's not a comprehensive finaid notice? i.e. Does it include the COA/loans/etc.?

I don't think it is.  They told me they'd be sending me a letter about the scholarship in the next few days but I haven't even sent them my fafsa.

I guess this makes sense. I talked with a financial adviser like a week or so ago and they said you have to enroll first before receiving a finaid notice. Sucks.

That does suck. I didn't realize that.
I've gotten merit aid notices, but I guess I'll have to wait for need-based information.

I will be at UH in the fall unless SMU throws a Hail Mary my way, and even then it would take some serious consideration.

I filled out my FAFSA in January, was admitted in February, and mailed in my deposit about a month ago, so I would like to think that I am as up-to-date as one can be about financial aid.  I've received my password to log in to their system and check my "To Do List" for financial aid.  I have yet to receive any financial aid award or estimated COA for next year.  If you have any more questions just send me an email.

Looks like there's a good chance this is where I'll be!  What part of Houston is everyone looking to live in??

There doesn't seem to be too many people going to U of H on here... I wonder why?

Ok, seriously... how in the heck did I get waitlisted with a 3.3 index? I think I'm the only 3.3 who wasn't an auto-admit!

IF I get accepted off the WL and SMU rejects me, I'll be there. (But will live with the parents in suburbia to save money).

I am visiting UH, SMU, and Baylor all within the next week.  I was told to look at Montrose, Midtown, Galleria, Upper Kirby, Medical City, Westheimer locations... there is another thread somewhere on here with a lot fo details about Houston living...

I recently went to look at apartments in houston.  There are some nice apartments in and around midtown, but they can get pretty pricey depending on the location.  I also found some great ones near hermann park and the medical center.  The particular ones I looked at were about the same prices as some of the midtown ones, but almost double the size.

I got accepted to UH, too! :) Anyone need any info about Houston, I'm happy to help. For living, it really depends what matters most to you. Closest (and best area) to the school would be midtown or med center, but from my experience, midtown is safer than the further south med center/Reliant area for sure.  Montrose is also a good option, right between West U and downtown, real similar to midtown. Midtown has more apt and townhome/condo options, Montrose more real homes/townhomes...also, check out downtown, it's getting more and more places to live. Hope this helps!
