MP's Thread, or how to get paid $75K to sit around: also known as UChicago 2010

it makes sense to me that there could be some Illini boys at Chicago (especially if one were a transfer

Congrats, transferguy!

And the let the OCI bidding begin!

My list is nowhere near ready.  Freak out?  Or does the time at which you bid not matter?

Hogan DC withdrew.  !@#!@

It doesn't matter when you bid. Everyone will just end up altering their lists throughout the week, if they're anything like me.

Nobody ever goes to Hogan DC anyway. See Who Worked Where 2009-10 Edition.

Good.  I'm too lazy to start the list until we find out about journals.  I have vague ideas, but no definite bidding positions.

I didn't even realize Hogan had a NYC office, but I figure I'll bid on them.

Given that firms are dropping out like crazy, I agree; it may be dispositive.

The offices listed as dropping out in the email today employ a combined 2 UChicago students this summer. One of those two people is returning to the firm from a 1L summer (and splitting with another firm).

So, that is one 2L job lost, by my count.

If I understand what Nerfco is alluding to, the 1L student who worked at SS was supposed to return but SS pulled the offer to return in April.

And I don't necessarily think that all of the big firms are going to drop out en masse, obviously the larger problem is just (1) having smaller classes and (2) making fewer offers generally b/c acceptance %s are going to be a lot higher.

When is journal stuff supposed to come out?

I'm a rising 1L...I've been perusing this site for a while. I had a quick question about 1L summer jobs in this economy; what is the best way to go about acquiring one? I'm a 0L RA this summer, so I think that should give me a (albeit slight) leg up on my fellow 1l job seekers...I did an NALP search for all of the firms in Chi that hire 1Ls traditionally, and I had planned on personally delivering my resume/cover letter on 12/1. However I think that might be fruitless when 2Ls from UChi are worried about summer gigs...Also, I'm deeply interested in labor and employment lit (I assume Kirkland is the best BIGLAW firm for that in chi), but what are opinions of smaller elite niche firms (say Jackson Lewis)? And what chance will I have of acquiring a 1L summer with one of them? Alas, I look forward to brushing shoulders in the hallways will all of you maroons in a couple of months
