Also, I believe someone who used to post a lot on the board is a current student there (intent06?) and he might be able to answer some of your questions.
There are other posters who live in Houston who may be able to help you as well.

REALLY?! Congrats to him, that's wonderful!!  ;D

didnt intent go to texas tech?

i was accepted there, and seriously considered going, but got a scholarship to arkansas.

damn, the price is right on tuition, though!

My scores are on LSN, but I had a 147 & 155 LSAT; 2.5 GPA, 2.74 in my major, 3.0 before my senior year. I have super soft factors, a great resume, great PS and LOR's. I am entirely too blessed to have been admitted to many of my schools and even more blessed to have received scholarships. Most of my story is on LSN though. But if you wanna know, you can ask.

Well thank you Rev. I appreciate it and all of your advice. I was speaking with Deaen Taylor and I was about to send the deposit in there as well, but then I got that call from SMU, so unless I get in UH. I will be attending SMU this fall.

Yea I just took chances and had confidence. I did not want to have any regrets concerning my cycle, when it was all said and done. But where are you going this fall?

Yeah, i shoulda had a little more confidence. I just figured with my low Lsats and my 3.0 gpa, i wasnt even going to get looked at

Im going to Southern U in Baton Rouge in the fall. It was moy first choice, but i wish i wouldve had more comfidence and maybe could've gotten a scholarship to a better school

What other schools did you apply to?  You'll do just fine at Southern.  I guess I feel like Black universities have more resources for African American students.  What great things have you heard about Thurgood Marshall Law School?

A former student gave me some very negative feedback...and I believe...I just want to take the chance on the school because it was okay when I visited.  They are slow in responding regarding scholarships and financial aid.  I'm going to mess around and send my seat deposit to another, but more expensive school if I don't get any feedback soon.

I am from Houston and I was this close to attending or at least puttin my seat deposit at Thurgood, but SMU called and so yea... Anyways back to your concerns. The school is good, contrary to popular belief. It places decently in Houston and the faculty there are not bad, but you will need to do well to have a chance at BIGlaw or decently well to get some good jobs in teh city. The attrition rate is high and the bar passage rate is low, but I am sure you know all of that. They do TRY to make sure that everyone makes it, but do the nature of the school's mission and premise it is almost impossible to not have a high attrition rate. It was founded as a school for minorities to attend since we were not allowed to attend UT. GREAT founding. Thats why I had no qulams getting my degree from there if I had to. But the bar passage rate is another issue. I applied back in November and they did not review my file until March and I did not get my letter until the middle of March. That was sad to me and My numbers are not great but I was able to receive scholarships from many of their peer institutions. Their administration is not well organized, but if you are focused and WANT to be in law school and be an Attorney, going to TSU will not impede you from what you want to do. It is those who do not have the desire or the aptitude who attribute to the attrition rate also many students do transfer. You should call them and ask to speak with either Tiffany or Dean Edward Rene, they will tell you if you qulaify for any additional free money. HTH! ;D

Hit me up if you want to knwo anything else or anythign about Houston. I am hoping to be a 1L at UHLC in the fall so I might be in the area anyway.

Peer Institutions?  What is that and how can I find out more about the $$$ they offer?  What's a good area to live in there?  I found a apartment downtown, near the stadium...feedback?

I applied to Georgia state, U of Md, Howard, Southern, FAMU(Just got my acceptance letter from there), WIdener U,and I gave this woman my app for Rutgers U. She says she can get me in, but in all honesty, im not ready for rutgers and i dont really want to attend anyway

The lady who is supposed to hook me up in Rutgers told me that the Thurgood Marshall school of law is very good, and she thinks that they'll become a better school in the next few years.

I was hard set on Southern U because my professor went there, who is a District Court Judge and another one of my professors went there as well who is an ADA. So i dont buy into the hype that you cant succeed at a black school

What is LSN?  Has Southern offered you any money?
