yeah - it was fun meeting ppl (even though i felt really lame elbowing ppl and whispering "what's your screenname on LSD? i'm psychgirl!") - very surreal putting faces to names/resumes. the whole li'l program was definitely fun and will be hard to top.

I'm so sorry Zen. :( *hugs*

Thanks. I appreciate it. Two in one week is a lot.

It was so much fun. There were about 8-10 of us there. Went drinking together, etc. Catz has a few pics that we will post anonymously.  dmschec was camera shy for whatever reason but we managed to get 2 pics with him included.

Geez, sounds like fun. I can't believe there were that few! I thought there were a lot more coming! How was the GULC presentation stuff? We want details!?!?

There were that few who identified themselves to everyone but there were a bunch of others who kept it more on the DL. Again, it's really surprising just how many people actually read this site, not just post here.

And we all had a blast at the bar on Thursday. Penn, NW and UVA: you're going to have to show me a pretty good time to top GULC.

um, yeah - goodfella, you def seemed to have a good time; and yale, i still can't believe you got the toby call WHILE WE WERE SITTING IN THE STUDENT PANEL!!! the irony still kills me. well, good luck to all who are still awaiting decisions!! who all is headed to the UVA open house in march?

DING from harvard. No surprise here - I'm actually relieved to finally see it in writing. Now I can go to UVA in peace. :)

Choosing the Right Law School / Re: NYU vs. UVA

Any thoughts?  Considering my numbers, I'm not holding my breath for lots of other options.  I'm instate for Virginia and worried about the cost of living in NY.  I'm considering biglaw (NY or DC), but I also have interests in academia.

If you're instate, go with UVA.  While it places slightly fewer people in big law, there are still plenty of opportunities -- and you'll save between 30-50k.

Instate UVA is only $5k/year cheaper than out-of-state, and in the broad scheme of things that isn't very much (this logic works very well for justifying a plasma TV btw, some free advice for ya).

Its only 5k/yr cheapter which is 15k already, plus consider the cost of living in NYC versus Virginia, over 3 years, you could easily save another 10k-15k, now you're at 25-30k

Plus even out-of-state tuition @ UVA is less than NYU's to start - so it's even cheaper still. I'm faced with the same decision myself, (in state for UVA vs. NYU), and I'm finding that (once you get past the $$) it's really comparing apples to oranges - what a tough choice! PM me, Lily, if you want to chat about it. G'luck!

Certain areas around and near the GULC campus may not be all that savory, but for those folks not familiar with the area, keep in mind that you're blocks (<5 min walk) from 7th Street - a posh new area replete with clubs, bars, fantastic restaurants, and great shopping. You're also breaths away from the Supreme Court, the Federal Appeals Court, and the D.C. Superior Court, not to mention headquarters for the Office of the Attorney General for the District ... so, it's hardly the projects. The neighborhood is called Penn Quarter, and it's really fun. I worked there this past summer and had a blast - and can't wait to go back. Basically, you learn which routes to avoid and you're fine - same as with any major city. Don't write it off too quickly!

I can't wait for the Admitted Students Weekend.

Congrats to all new admits!!!  Me either! (Could I be more obsessed with a law school?) :)

Yep, I heard - sorry, folks, but it was the dreaded/expected deferral. Better luck to everyone else!

FYI, didn't write Why Penn (and am not a convicted serial killer, Spiff) :)

I'm not all that disappointed... my incredible luck had to run out at some point.

I'm in the club, too. Deferred today at Penn. Are you guys gonna jump through the hoops and send extra stuff? I may just send my fall grades and an addendum with honors, etc. that are new since I applied.

I'd love to go!

The only problem is, I think my job is moving that weekend.  :-\

BTW, have you guys found anything useful on the admitted students website?

Ya, info on housing. How competitive do y'all think the on-campus apartments are to get?? (Def cheaper than the privately-owned alternatives in the surrounding area)

Just called the Admissions Office and was met with a surprisingly informative recorded message:

The Admissions Office is closed until January 3rd, blah blah blah, if you are calling to find out the status of your Early Notification application, please know that all decisions have been mailed. Yada yada, call back on Tuesday, January 3rd if you have other questions.

So is the consensus that the emails won't get sent out since they're already home for the break? Or will Meeker come through for us and send something from home? Hmm... (or is the admissions office covertly open yet not accepting outside communication from applicants?) All possibilities. (I just want a decision!!!)

To those who were recently accepted, when did you apply?  Just wondering if I have any shot of receiving anything soon (not that I expect to get in, but I can hope, right?).
