Top 100 Heisman candidates:

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/story/5746512

Hell yeah -- Derrick Williams, Anthony Morelli, and Paul Posluszny on the list.

nebraska qb in the top 25 is a hell of a jump.

i dont know why he bothered ranking defensive players <aint gonna happen> or players from teams like rutgers <aint gonna happen>.  it may not be fair, but thats the way it goes i guess

yes. by default, only 10, maybe 15, players have a shot at the heisman in any given year. about 1/3 of the equation is hype, and about 1/3 is being on a team in the nat'l spotlight, and the last third is stats.

the heisman is an awesome award to receive, and still effin prestigious, but it's not about the best player, and never will be again.

uh, not necessarily. he was the most spectacular, but as far as the best? maybe. he's a rare specimen, however.

If you had to decide who was the best, who would you choose?  I know, "best" could mean anything, but I'm just curious.

Last year, I'd choose Vince Young.  He won the national title and the win can largely be attributed to him.  He had the best individual performance in the toughest matchup of the year, which also happened to be the most important game of the year.

Of course, Heisman is already decided by then.  I hate that.  It's like when they call something a "play of the game" in the 7th inning.

Kinda like that Zidane thing, lol.

I'd vote for Young being the MVP (if there was such a thing), but I'd still give the overall "best" nod to Bush

This sort of goes back to the old, Heisman/MPV thing -- is the Heisman the MVP or is it something different.

The Heisman is the Heisman, and it goes to whoever deserves the Heisman.  It's not the MVP, Best Offensive Player, or Best Defensive Player, it's the Heisman.  It's circular, but it's the only way I know to explain it.
