Law School Admissions / Re: Okay, its time to vent!

Thanks for the info dsds. You've essentially covered all the questions I had and then some! I guess most of the questions I had have probably come up before, but like I said I simply needed some kind of forum to vent a little. Also, you said that because my application wasn't complete until mid january that it wasn't probably even looked at until then, but is that the case even if everything was complete on my initial app in november except for few classes that I was wrapping up for graduation (6 credit hours)? Thanks again for the clarification.

Law School Admissions / Okay, its time to vent!

Hello all, I have a few things to get off my chest and if there is anything relavent in the enclosed please feel free to digress. First, it is now March 5th and I still haven't gotten anything from 4 out of the 6 schools I have applied to. I applied to three of these schools in November, but my complete undergrad transcripts were not finalized until Jan 18th or so. Does the admission silence for so long help or hurt me at this point? Are they waiting for all the late appliers/feb lsat takers? Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to what "rolling basis" REALLY means, or even why some schools (in my case the lower tiers) have an absurdly long application timeline if any at all? Also, why the inconsistency with some schools? For instance a few of my schools have been diligent about confirming the completion of my app, whereas others haven't sent anything. A few of the schools have even sent me financial aid apps...Does this essentially mean I will be getting a spot, even though they explicitly state that the two are seperate? I know that there is other people trolling this board that are in a similar boat that I'm in, and that not all of us have the great gpa and lsat which alleviates some of the stress!

Incoming 1Ls / Re: Rejection

Hi all,

I have been dinged at Florida Coastal, Barry, and Widener thus far...My LSAT is a 145 with my gpa a 2.55. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in political science. I haven't given up hope yet but with each passing day and no new acceptances it is becoming increasingly difficult for optimism. I still have remaining apps out to Whittier, Roger Williams, NESL, St. Thomas, and Western State...Hoping for the best and planning for the worst! Try and stay positive everyone!

Law School Admissions / Re: Index Number Site

I hope people were able to download the spreadsheet and further evaluate their chances of admission. That being said, how reliable do you think this is as an indicator. It seems that once I punched in my info it gave me the same index numbers that I had found out through my LSAC admissions pdf for each school, but the percentages for admission dropped overall through the excel document. If anyone knows who or why someone developed this spreadsheet and whether it is an actively up to date indicator I would appreciate it. Thanks

Go to UNC! I know I'm biased because I just graduated there as an undergrad, but Chapel Hill is a wonderful facillitator for academics, and the town, people, climate, are often overlooked intangibles when looking at numbers/rankings. If it was me I would go to UVA if I got in, but my second beyond a doubt would be UNC. They have a great alumni network and if you did well, anywhere you wanted to practice would be available. Good luck!

Hey Valerie, Keep plugging along and staying positive! I'm sure you would agree that it is much easier to take rejection if it happens quickly. One question for people, what is the standard protocol for acceptances? Is it always delivered in the mail, or are other means of notification used as well? I ask this because I have really bonded with my mail man recently...Paul

Applied early Jan '04, rejected about three weeks later. Relatively quick turnover and one of the later applications I put in.
