Black Law Students / Ali
« on: January 17, 2007, 09:15:53 AM »
I pray everyone had a blessed MLK day this monday... and with respect to Muhammad Ali's birthday today:

"I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and got into bed before the room was dark."

-before George Foreman fight, 1974

"Cassius Clay is a slave name. I didn't choose it and I don't want it. I am Muhammad Ali, a free name. It means beloved of God, and I insist people use it when people speak to me and of me."

-announcing his conversion to the Muslim faith after first Liston fight

"I done wrestled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale; handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail; Only last week, I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalized a brick; I'm so mean I make medicine sick."

- before Foreman fight, 1974

Black Law Students / Reason #5,732 (Adopted from LB)
« on: June 19, 2006, 09:50:43 AM »
Ok, so I've been off the BLSD scene for awhile and have observed that the "How come" thread is no longer in effect.  So I'ma just start a new post for this one...

Reason #5,732:  A few years back I attended the funeral of a close friend and witnessed an interpretive dance followed by song dedication......"Forty (40) to your memory"

Reason #5,733:  I recently visited the grave site of that same friend and witnessed numerous people leaving balloons at the burial sites of their loved ones (all you could bear were balloons poppin everytime the wind blew) and others were pouring out bottles of Patron and leaving the bottles by the headstones....*sigh*

Black Law Students / Ten page paper due by midnight
« on: May 09, 2006, 02:45:36 PM »
Or should I just do 5 pages and then repaste pages 1-5 on the end to make ten pages.  She can't possibly read 30+ ten page papers due tonight and turn in grades by tomorrow.

EDIT: havent even started outlining or gathering sources.

Maybe I missed this thread elsewhere but now that I'm accepted and decided I'm ready to send out the thank you's to my recommenders.  I was wondering what other people sent.  I was going to do wine.  Any other suggestions?

Law School Admissions / What does it take to go "Complete" at Georgetown
« on: February 14, 2006, 08:55:45 AM »
I sent in my application in early November.
I re-took the LSAT in Dec and they were sent the update score 1st week Jan.
I waited and waited and waited throughout January to go to complete on status checker.
I sent an e-mail last week of Jan to make sure they recieved everything - no reply.
I send an e-mail 1st week of Feb to make sure they recieved everything - no reply.
I called the admissions office last Monday and was told my materials were recieved and I should go complete by the end of the week and to call back if it doesnt happen.
I called back late Friday notifying the same person that I still had not gone complete. She said not to worry, that everything was received and complete - then why the heck cant they update the status checker. Is it still going to say "applied" when I recieve a decision letter? Sorry all - I just felt the need to vent.

EDIT: I prefer to get my dings out of the way early.

Law School Admissions / Should I call??
« on: February 01, 2006, 12:00:56 PM »
I sent in Georgetown application materials during the first week of November.  They must have had a lot of time on their hands b/c a few weeks later they e-mailed me that they hadnt recieved my PS and resume.  I finally sent in all remaining materials, including a follow-up LSAC report, in mid-December and my on-line status has not changed. I sent two e-mail inquiries this week and last week and still no response.  Should I call them or just continue to wait it out?  I starting to wonder if they actually recieved my materials or not.   ???

Black Law Students / News- Support Jamie Foxx
« on: January 24, 2006, 06:25:05 AM »
In case you haven't gotten the e-mail already.....

"Jamie Foxx - Music Special Controversy on NBC

Please take the time to forward the below message to everyone in your address book. NBC is not doing any marketing & publicity on Jamie's Music Special on NBC because he stood his ground and wouldn't have any white guest as they requested.    To make it even worse he had two controversial guest stars, that do not fit the "NBC profile" on his show.    Tune in to find out who they are.    They are purposely putting his show up against the second week of American Idol in hopes that it will fail.    This will give them the excuse to never give another black person a music special because "it doesn't work".    Let's show them that it does work, and that we support each other. Tivo Idol, and watch Jamie. I saw the taping, it is a good show.

J Foxx making history on NBC. This is the first time NBC has ever aired   an entire young urban African American cast on a music special. We need to
show support. This was not an easy sell for Jamie and he stood his ground   to make it happen the way he saw fit.

There will be surprise specialguests."
