Don't liberals value tolerance?

 ???

Who said I'm a "liberal"?

Also, @#!* tolerance.  Tolerance doesn't mean letting everyone get away with their bull.

I won't discuss this any further, though, to prevent myself from getting lost in the irony of anything you're about to say.

Can you direct me to some Hank quotes illustrating why you're so frustrated? I'm not getting this.

Nope.  They're practically the same person.  Rearden is less brash about it, but he's more flirtatious, so they're equally annoying.

I've watched him make these arguments numerous times now.  I've had it.  I can't stand him, and I can't stand those like him that I've had to grow up with over the years.  You, of all people, should be able to understand my disgust here.

meh, he's just a kid.

as i've said several times before, he is indistinguishable from breadboy and not worth taking at all seriously: press him and what you'll find is wooly-headed fluff masquerading as iconoclasm.

as a matter of courtesy, the people who do like him might ask him to go easy on the racist undertones of his posts. other than that there's nothing to be done but wait for maturity to set in.

I realize all of this.  Unfortunately, I also know a few more things from personal experience:

1)  He's not likely to mature in this sense.  He won't pick up on these things unless he is forced to.  Why should it behoove him?
2)  He certainly is worth taking seriously.  This is a law school discussion board.  People on here are all potential future policy-makers.  Even if he's not, he WILL have a very real effect on people's lives one day.

Of course, me being belligerent about it probably won't help anyone change their mind.  But I honestly don't give a @#!* anymore.  I sincerely believe that he's had enough opportunity to change his mind already (as have others like him).

To live in a world where all disagreement is the product of vice or stupidity, ah, youth.

I wish just for once Hank Rearden would just fight fire with fire and retaliate to this. Be mean, flame, insult, curse... That'd be awesome. For my enjoyment of course.

It doesn't work that way.  You're not likely to get worked up when you know you're wrong but you're too self-righteous to give a @#!*.

You especially aren't likely to get worked up when you're already handed everything on a silver platter, so why worry about what some other guy has to say?

Can someone point to some of these alleged racist statements?  Garry would like to judge for himself...

It's been a year and I'm still trying to get over this

Just look at history Kay Dee.  500 years ago white Europeans were exploring the globe, making strides in astronomy, inventing things, writing great pieces of literature, but blacks were doing nothing.  There is no black Shakespeare, there is no Native American Galileo.  Why did the Europeans advance so quickly compared to blacks?  Well there are probably a lot of reasons, but those aren't really important.  What is important is that blacks ARE capable of reversing these historical trends.  If blacks want to succeed in what is essentially a white/Western society, they have got to adopt the same values that whites/Westerners have.  Think about it like a race...blacks as a whole are at an automatic disadvantage compared to whites.  So how do we even the match?  Affirmative action proponents seem to think we should just artificially place the blacks up with the whites, but that ignores the reasons why whites are ahead to begin with.  Metaphorically, blacks need to train their quadriceps and improve their endurance before truly being able to compete on a level playing field with whites and Asians.

i'm not a liberal either, hank, but i've got your back.  :)

Perhaps you could go into where you differ with a typical liberal. The last time we discussed this all you managed to respond with was one subtle critique you made of a liberal position a long, long time ago.

Should I "tolerate" the Klan and neo-Nazis, too?  You lack basic human decency -- that's not a very high bar.

actually, i [think] i agree with some of the things that you were groping for in that thread.  i just don't think you know very much or that you think particlarly well.

He majored in government; he doesn't know how to think.  Most damningly, he isn't interested in acquiring the ability (and sadly, this may actually help him in law school).

TITCR, in many ways.  There's more to it, but this puts it nicely.

And Leo's post was the one I would've gone looking for.  How'd you find that?  I can't even remember the thread.

Absolutely, as long as they aren't physically harming others. Ditto communists, anarchists, socialists, and Yalies.
