UVA/Emory Admit Days. R U Going?
« on: March 20, 2005, 04:11:22 PM »
I'm in at UVA ;D!! I really want to go to the student admit day on April 8th. Is anyone else planning to go?

I RSVPed for Emory's admit thingy that happens to be on the same day, before I knew of my UVA admission :( . I really want to see both though, so I'm thinkin' of going to Emory earlier that week and flying from ATL to VA for UVA's admit day.

So, is anyone else going? I hear it's got [UVA] a beautiful campus. :)

Hi there,

I'll be at UVA's visitation day. I did my UG at Emory though, so I'm already pretty familiar with the law school and won't be attending the event there. For me, it's basically come down to whether I want to stay here in California, or whether I'm up for another trek over to the southeast.

Sierra, did you apply to Emory LS? What do you think of the school in comparison to UVA?

Oh, and see you there at UVA's admitted students day!! I'm so excited! ;D

I am also in at Emory, but still pending at UVA (although losing hope fast). I've visited Emory already, but Ill be going back for the admitted students day. That being said, if I did end up getting into UVA, there really wouldn't be a question in my mind about attending there, I'd go in a second, esp. since I'm instate and would have a significant tuition reduction. That's not to say Emory isnt great, I was impressed when I visited and I think its a fine school, but UVA is UVA.

So you think the difference between the two is that significant? Are the two even worth comparing??

Neither are as well regarded in the Chicago region, as far as I know. Between Northwestern and The University of Chicago, anything but Harvard, Yale, Stanford, etc.can be overshadowed and therefore aren't as widely known rep wise. Maybe such isn't the case for others in the Chi area, but as for me, I don't have much to go on except the US News World Report rankings.

What's you're opinion? What makes you say "UVA is UVA"? (Sorry if this is a no-brainer of a question, but hey, if you don't know, you've gotta ask...

No problem,
I say "UVA is UVA" because its a great school, Top 10, great national rep, etc. The fact is, its definitely a national law school with a name that will carry weight anywhere you want to practice. Emory is a great school, and can put you in alot of very good places, but not as many as UVA. I think there is a small comparison in that both are very good law schools that will give you a great legal education, but UVA is just on a much higher tier, or level, or whatever you want to call  the rarified air of the top 10 or top 14.

Plus, Charlotteville is cool.

I also applied to Emory Law School, but at this time I'm not planning on going there for a couple of reasons: first, I did get in to some T14 schools. Emory is a great school - I loved the time I spent there, and I really like Atlanta and the area that the campus is in. However, Emory law is most known for tax and corporate law. I am interested in environmental and international law. So, Emory might not be the best match for me. Second, Emory LS has great connection in Atlanta and the southeast. However, I would like to have to option of working on the west coast. I think that going to a T14 school would make that more feasible.

And W. S., you say Charlottesville is cool? Is it a college town?

Not according to GTO.  In the Midwest, the schools with the best placement are:
