Incoming 1Ls / Re: Which is more difficult, the LSAT or GMAT?
« on: February 24, 2005, 01:19:26 AM »
GMAT is harder because it requires actual knowledge while the LSAT only requires reasoning.

Simply because something requires knowledge does not mean that it is more difficult, which is the question under discussion.  I could take a 1st grade spelling test (which would require knowledge) but this would not be more difficult than the LSAT.

Choosing the Right Law School / Does UCLA have a national reputation?
« on: February 23, 2005, 06:58:55 PM »
Looking at UCLA's graduate statistics, I notice that the vast majority of graduates from UCLA practice in California (88%).  Is this simply because graduates cannot resist the lucrative job market in L.A. or because UCLA does not carry a national reputation?  Thanks.

I am in a similar predicament trying to decide between GW, Wustl, and UCLA.  I think I'm going to go with UCLA.  I like warm weather and UCLA (and USC) both set you up for a great career, particularly in California.  In all of these top 15-25 schools, if you look at the career placement stats, most graduates from these schools end up practicing in their respective states.  I would recommend trying to decide where you might want to live and then choosing your school from there.

My numbers are similar to you so I'm hoping that my experiences will help you. I will say that you have slightly better extracurriculars and that I have no work experience.  As you can see from LSN, I have been rejected from about half of the T14s I have applied to so far and I am still pending at about half.  Heavy LSAT schools such as Georgetown I think your chances are slim.  I think we are the type of candidates that are extremely borderline just by the #s at T14s.  You have a chance to get in, but you also have a chance to get rejected by all of them, it is kind of a crapshoot.  We are in the prime waitlist area of most T14s.  Hopefully your extracurriculars will pull you through.  I would recommend looking at a couple of sub T14s that you wouldn't mind attending and maybe throw in one or two more applications just for peace of mind but I think you are a lock at Illinois. Hope this helps.

wtf?  I don't get it either man, admissions is crazy sh*t.  I wouldn't worry about it though, I would be shocked if you didn't get into georgetown with your stats (they love lsat), and I think you have a great chance at columbia and northwestern as well. Good luck!

Well, I suspected that it would come any day, and today it did. Even if you are expecting it, it sucks to get a rejection from your dream school.  Good luck to everyone.

I'm not sure about any except I think WUSTL gives out some merit money, just looking at LSN from last year.
