Reading your letters of recommendation?

Reading your letters of recommendation?
« on: November 19, 2007, 06:05:38 AM »
I've read a few posts that seem to indicate several people have been able to read their letters of recommendation before they attached them to applications...

Was this just out of the good will of the recommenders that they made a copy available to you?  I know that LSDAS doesn't make them available to the applicant.

Good will. I got a glowing 2 page single-spaced letter from my current boss. I almost cried when I read it.

I was offered to read mine (well, three of my four) but had no desire to.

I read two of my three...one of them after it had been sent, and one of them beforehand (he asked if I had anything that I wanted added or changed). I thought it was awfully nice of them both.

I don't know that I want to read them haha.. I'd rather just assume the best.  ;)

One of my bosses insisted on me looking at his letter to make sure it was okay. I had to run into the bathroom because I almost started to cry (glad it's not just me!) Two other recommenders also gave me copies, while the remaining two (I ended up with an extra) didn't.

Same here! I got a LOR from a prof I hadn't seen in four years, and it was the most incredible thing I have ever read about myself. I'm pretty humble pie most of the time, so it was a huge shock to see that someone really valued my efforts to that degree.

I had 4 recs total, and I got to see all of them. One sent me a copy after he submitted it to LSAC; the other three asked me to proof and make changes before they submitted it.
