Florida Coastal AAMPLE Program
« on: February 22, 2010, 01:34:37 AM »
I have a low LSAT Score (143) and I was admitted into the Summer Conditional (AAMPLE) Program through Florida Coastal. Can anyone give me their opinions on this program. What are the reviews and how likely is it that people pass this program and earn a spot in their fall class? Thanks.

Thats interesting.  I received emails from them stating that I was pre-qualified and I have a relatively low LSAT score as well, and a low GPA.  I'd like to hear the answers to your questions.  I just submitted my application today... But nothing on their application indicated that they had a summer conditional program...

The AAMPLE program from what I gathered is courses pulled from the 2L-3L coursebook. The classes are some of the more difficult courses. I spoke with three individuals who went through the program. Of the three 2 had passed, but all three exclaimed to take and alternate course, (ie) re-take the LSAT. Each of the classes consisted of 27-40 individuals and of them 3-4 successfully completed the course.

I had this option, and I decided to re-take the daunting LSAT. I looked at it as too much of a gamble. If were at no cost, then sure, but because it cost 3k, and you still are not guaranteed admissions. It is much safer to re-take the $130 LSAT and re-apply.

I am not a typical applicant. I took the LSAT 3 times. 3rd times the charm. Each time I incorporated new studying techniques as well as past ones that worked, but needed fine tuning.

Good Luck with your decision!!!

The two students who passed...Where did they go for undergrad and did they have any tips on passing this program?

Yeah I have heard really bad reviews on this course. I spoke with one person and she stted that she would just take the LSAT over again. She went through the class and it was not worth it. So I may just end up taking the dang test again and just going from there

Yikes, those are terrible odds. If those numbers are legitimate, I think enrolling in these courses would be a huge mistake. Better to spend the money on some 1-on-1 LSAT tutoring, and put in a ton of hard work improving your score over summer instead.

Also, I don't really think there are 2L/3L courses that are "harder" than any others. This is especially true when it is all graded on a curve, so it doesn't matter how much you understand on an absolute level, it only matters how well you understand the material relative to your classmates.

What makes those odds even worse is the fact that the schools see to it that only a limited number successfully complete the program and gain admission.  Florida Coastal, Phoenix Law, and Charlotte School of Law are all for-profit law schools (all three are owned by the same parent company).  Be wary of these schools, especially if you hope to attend a school that actually cares about the ambitions of its students, rather than keeping their shareholders happy.  The AAMPLE program is a great way for them to pocket $100,000 before school even starts.
