Rejected before and deciding to apply this year?

Please advice and make suggestions.

I applied last year to law school with a 140 and a 2.7 gpa and got rejected from FAMU (25% for famu is 144 and 2.7). I know your probably asking why do I want to pursue a law career? I have worked for an attorney for over 7 years and familiar with the field and I have a job waiting for me. I am scheduled to take the LSAT in June and apply next year again for now. However, I would like to apply again this year. If Everything else remains the same and if I hire someone to help me write and impressive essay and resume, do any of you think it will be wise or smart and take a chance and apply this year? My personal statements were good but could be better. I like to think that if I really write a god PS, maybe they will overlook my numbers? Or would it be a waste of time and money? I don't mind the money, I just don't want it to look bad when I apply next year providing I get rejected.   Thanks.

If money is not a problem, I would find a reputable admissions consultant for next year (Fall 2011). You need a better LSAT score, period. Also, your writing is hard to follow, I would work on improving that.

As long as you get a better LSAT score, you will be fine. Above a 150 and you'll be set for where you want to go.

I'm in a similar situation. I've worked as a Paralegal for 10+ years.  I applied in 2007 with a 147/2.9 and got waitlisted/rejected. I met with the admissions person at one of the schools, and she told me that I could re-apply with a better LSAT, new letters, and a new statement. I finally got around to putting some serious work into the LSAT. I took a Princeton class and the the LSAT in Feb. I *hope* I got in the 150s. Otherwise I know I could hit 160 with a bit more time, so I'll keep working, retest in June, and reapply next cycle.

Have you checked the median score for the school to which you want to apply?  You should wait an apply until you can get close or above that score, especially since your GPA is under 3.0.

If your really serious about going to law school and can't get a higher score you can go to a California bar approved school. They are easier to get into than ABA schools and I think you would qualify with a 147.  If you choose to go to one of these schools you will be limited to practicing in California, but there are worse states to live in. The only two CBA schools I know about are Santa Barbara College of Law and Cal Northern both are somewhat respectable for there respective areas, but you will pretty much be stuck in that location. I lived in Chico, which is a small town of only 100,000 and Cal Northern is located there a lot of the lawyers practing in Chico went to Cal Northern and they make a living, but your career options will be somewhat restricted if you go to California Bar approved school. Another pro to these schools is that it is significantly cheaper than ABA schools I think Cal Northern is only like 6,000 a year and Chico is cheap to live in.
