The work I want to do is with organizations like Earthjustice (http://www.earthjustice.org/), Sierra Club (http://www.sierraclub.org/), NRDC (http://www.nrdc.org/), and Defenders (http://www.defenders.org/index.php).  They keep the Administration's feet to the fire with their lawsuits.  Time and time again, I have seen EPA forced to do the right thing (and abide by their own statutes and regulations) because they lost a lawsuit.  I also have a friend who is a lawyer for Best Friends (http://www.bestfriends.org/) and was instrumental in getting anti-dogfighting legislation (post-Vick) passed in Georgia.  Pretty impressive to me...

P.S.  In case you didn't know, if Michael Vick had set up his dogfighting operation in Georgia, he would not have been in violation of state laws at that time.

Are you in school now or applying? I've done some contract work/clinic work for some of hose groups in law school. Very benficial feeling, but very hard to get a perm postion unless your looking for a regional office, Colorado is a good place to look as many of the groups have big offices here. Right now I am working on a project for my Animal Rights/Law class to draft a rule to give pets rights or something like rights, even if only by contract.

Hi Matties:  I am still in the LSAT/application phase, so I have a long way to go.  However, I appreciate the info about Colorado.  My husband grew up in Pueblo and we'd love to live in the Denver/Boulder area.

If I was picking a career based on earnings potential, I would have picked something else besides law. It seems anything within the fields of math and science (computer programming, IT, engineering, anything in healthcare) can get bigger paydays. I wanted a career suited to my abilities. It's refreshing to see people choosing law based on their interest, not the (perceived) large payday.
