that is really, really awful, but i have to say i had no idea the Mississippi could be found that far north.

 :D

In fact, it's rather wide at that point. Not as wide as it gets further south, but still a mighty river.

That's insane! They should call it by a different name at that point. :D

I am a U of M 2L and saw the collapsed bridge in person, probably the worst thing I have ever seen--horrible.

man, what a world we live in where just a few hours after such a disaster happening we can get all of these pictures and all this information about it. it wasn't that long ago that stuff like this took months to get around.

I'm only a couple miles away, and its definitely one of the scariest things I've ever been through, trying to call friends and family members to make sure they're ok.

Keep the twin cities in your prayers tonight (or thoughts, as the case may be), we need all the help we can get right now
You must be the change you wish to see in the world

they were saying 160k+ bridges in the US are structurally deficient.

doesn't mean they will collapse, but are not up to the loads they are handling

so, do we wait for more to collapse, or do we spend the trillion plus now to start to fixing them?

And P, notice no speling erors aboove??

"Literally wielding a big red VETO stamp to appease the no-tax crowd that remains hell-bent on a something-for-nothing relationship with government, Gov. Tim Pawlenty deep-sixed the bipartisan transportation bill. 'How dumb can they be?' he sneered of the lawmakers who dared approve a tax hike to fix the state's roads.
